Confederate Motor Company is an American motorcycles manufacturer founded in 1991 by Matthew Chambers. Although the company is based in Birmingham, Alabama, their first shop was established in New Orleans, where the first Confederate bike was produced in 1994.
The company's bikes are distributed by Birmingham Speed of America and their current line-up includes two models, the Hellcat F131 and the Wraith B120, with another one called Renovatio, currently in development.
The Wraith B120 was cloned 250 time. The year 2007 brought it and its sister, the F131 Hellcat, the first and second position respectively in the AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building show in Sturgis, South Dakota in the production manufacturer category. Inside the Renovatio bike lies a 90 degree water cooled GM engine. The machine conceived by Ed Jacobs uses the fewest pieces possible, is minimal, light weight and can develop a torque of 125 lbs-ft. With a displacement of 1686cc and a 4.25x3.62 in bore, stroke, its engine develops 135 HP.The Hellcat F131 is a little bit stronger, thanks to its 149 HP and 150 ft. lbs fo torque, while the Wraith B120 has 125 HP and develops a torque of 130 ft. lbs The Confederate Motor Company suffered some serious damages in the summer of 2005, when the US was hit by the Hurricane Katrina. As their factory was damaged, had interrupted production and moved operations to Birmingham, Alabama. Production was resumed in early 2006. Being so different, the company has a few remarcable customers on the list. Confederate Motorcycles are related to Brad Pitt, Ryan Reynolds and Bruce Springsteen. Tom Cruise, who also owns a Confederate, rode on one in 2006, in a promotion for the premiere of his Mission Impossible III movie.
