In 2007, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati Multistrada 1100S as a replacement for the 1000S DS. The bike featured a larger 1,078cc engine that delivered 6.8 Nm (5 lb-ft) torque more than its predecessor.
Compared to the standard 1100 model, the S-suffixed machine was fitted with race-derived Ohlins suspension, black-finished wheels, and other improvements that improved handling.
Other improvements included fuel gauge accuracy, improved vibrations, and reduced rider fatigue by introducing a new handlebar.
The bike also used an open-loop fuel injection system instead of the closed-loop previously used on the 1000cc models and a wet clutch instead of the dry unit used by its predecessors. Also, Ducati reduced maintenance costs by 50 percent, increasing valve clearance intervals from 9,700 to 11,300 km (6,000 to 7,000 miles).
In other departments, the 2007 Ducati Multistrada 1100S was identical to the standard model, packing the same half fairing with an adjustable windshield, a two-piece dual seat with a passenger grab handle, a dual exhaust system with two silencers mounted under the seat, a single-sided aluminum swingarm, and five-spoke black-finished aluminum wheels.
As for the power figures, the bike packed the same 1,078cc four-stroke air-cooled V-twin engine as the standard model, delivering 95 hp with a peak force at 7,750 rpm and 104 Nm (77 lb-ft) torque at 4,750 rpm.
