The 2024 BMW X6 M is a high-performance variant of the X6 SUV, which is a coupe-like version of the BMW X5. There's also an X5 M with a more traditional SUV shape. Both sit just below the larger XM and above the smaller X3 M and X4 M in BMW's lineup. The X6 M's sloping roofline gives it a sleek profile, but it reduces rear passenger space and cargo capacity compared to the X5 M. This year, both undergo the most significant changes since they were redesigned in 2020.

zzdcar spotlight: Big changes for 2024
It's been four years since the current X6 M generation was introduced, so it receives what's called a midcycle refresh, typically the most significant update between full redesigns. The most obvious change is exterior styling, as the X6 M adopts some of the brash angular styling of the larger XM SUV. Inside, a new curved display panel encloses both the digital instruments and the infotainment touchscreen, bringing it in line with newer BMW models. There's also a new mild hybrid engine that increases power output by 17 horsepower. This year, it's only offered as the X6 M Competition, incorporating last year's Competition package as standard equipment. You also get more technology features for both infotainment and safety.
Competitors to consider
If you're drawn to the X6 M's coupe-like silhouette and don't mind the sacrifices to interior space, there are a handful of rivals to consider. In terms of price, the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe is comparable when you add options. Like the X6 M, it should easily exceed most drivers' expectations for performance, as should the related Audi RS Q8. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63 S Coupe adds a bit more luxury to the sporty mix. They're all worthy choices, and deciding between them can simply come down to personal preference.
Which X6 M does zzdcar recommend?
With the X6 M Competition as the only available trim, your decisions are limited to colors and options. We suggest adding the Driving Assistance Professional package to get the benefits of adaptive cruise control and enhanced lane keeping assistance.
