If you feel like the current crop of luxury EVs lack a little personality, you might want to begin your shopping journey with the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq. This midsize SUV is the first fully electric car from Cadillac, and it dazzles with a high-tech interior and exterior design, alongside practical attributes like a long-range battery pack and General Motors' hands-free Super Cruise system. It was introduced just last year in limited configurations, but the lineup explodes from one trim to seven in 2024.

Am I Ready for an EV?
EV ownership works best if you can charge (240V) at home or at work This typically means a 240V home installation, but you could also have a similar setup at your office or other places your car is already parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice unless you've got a plug-in hybrid, in which case overnight charging at home is feasible.
If you can’t charge at home, charging at a charging station could take at least 10x longer than at a gas station With public charging infrastructure still in its infancy, the user experience can be maddeningly inconsistent. Tesla owners tend to rave about the reliability and speed of the company's proprietary Supercharger stations, but rival DC fast options have thus far been plagued by technical issues and overcrowding. It's an evolving landscape and our best advice is to do your research on the available options for the EV you want to buy.
Adding a 240V home charging system could cost up to $1,600 or more If your existing electrical service can handle the additional demands of EV charging, you may be able to add Level 2 charging at home for less than a grand, including installation. But your costs will multiply if you need to upgrade your electrical panel or add a dedicated circuit.
zzdcar spotlight: The Lyriq's distinctive style
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but whether you love it or hate it, there's no doubt that the Lyriq's styling makes an impression. Unlike the EVs that try to fly under the radar with a reserved design (or, in the Model Y's case, are so ubiquitous that your eyes glide right off the sheetmetal), you won't lose the Lyriq in the Disneyland parking lot. An intricately detailed front lighting signature is complemented by the Lyriq's tall station-wagon profile. The high waistline and chopped roof give it a custom car look, and the wraparound taillights that start at the rear pillar wouldn't look out of place on a concept. Simply put, the Lyriq is a showstopper.
Competitors to consider
We also recommend checking out the Genesis GV60, which is one of the Lyriq's closest rivals in terms of size and price. It's comfortable and quick — especially if you opt for the Performance version — but its maximum range isn't particularly impressive. You could also save some cash with the Model Y or go upmarket with the BMW iX or Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV.
Which LYRIQ does zzdcar recommend?
The Lyriq's Luxury 2 and Sport 2 trim levels provide loads of value. Either is a reasonable price bump from the Luxury 1 or Sport 1, and it gets you massaging and cooled front seats, a primo sound system and other upgrades. We think it's well worth the extra spend.
Cadillac LYRIQ models
The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq is a five-passenger midsize electric SUV. For its second year of production, the Lyriq is available in far more configurations than the 2023 model. The new Tech trim is the base version, followed by the 1, 2 and 3 trim levels, which are each available in the Luxury and Sport styling themes. Keep reading for our breakdown of the Lyriq's range, power and features that come on each trim.Whichever model you select, every Lyriq is powered by a 102-kWh battery pack and your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. RWD models feature a single motor (340 horsepower, 325 lb-ft of torque) estimated by the EPA to deliver 314 miles of driving range. Upgrade to AWD and you'll add a second motor to the front axle, upgrading output to 500 hp and 450 lb-ft while dropping range slightly to 307 miles.
