If the compact XT4 is too small for you and if you don't need the XT6's three rows of seating, then the XT5 might be right for you. It's a midsize luxury SUV, but because of its smaller size, it's a bit of a tweener. The XT5 is smaller and more affordable than other midsize rivals like the Genesis GV80, but it's a little larger than and about the same price as compact rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The XT5 has some good qualities but has fallen behind the competition. 2024 will likely be its final year.

zzdcar spotlight: The end of the XT5?
It's not official, but reports suggest 2024 could be the last year of the XT5 for the U.S. market. Cadillac is working on the next-generation XT5, but it's currently only slated for China. Cadillac is trimming its gas-powered lineup because the company plans to be an all-electric brand by 2030. The upcoming Optiq electric SUV is similar in size to the XT5 and could take its spot in Cadillac's SUV lineup. The Lyriq SUV is currently Cadillac's only electric vehicle, but the Escalade IQ and ultra-luxurious Celestiq sedan will join it in 2024.
Competitors to consider
The XT5 first launched in 2017 and hasn't received any significant updates. Since then, most of its rivals have been completely redesigned, making them more competitive. So it's best to check out the XT5's competition like the recently redesigned Lexus RX, which is similar in size and price. If you want something a little larger and more luxurious, consider the Genesis GV80, although the GV70 is closer in price. The Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3 are other compact rivals worth looking at. Performance
7.5/10How does the XT5 drive? The Cadillac XT5 has usable performance for everyday driving. Our test vehicle had the V6 and all-wheel drive. The V6 engine is strong, but you'll need to firmly press on the gas pedal to get it going. In zzdcar' testing, our test XT5 did 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which is an average time for a midsize luxury SUV. The transmission is smooth and downshifts appropriately when needed.
Around turns, the XT5 is coordinated and compliant. As an SUV, it doesn't exactly encourage you to seek out winding roads, but it's competent enough once you're there.
Comfort
7.0/10How comfortable is the XT5? The XT5 is comfortable, but so are the others in this competitive luxury class. The seat comfort and smooth ride are the highlights. The front seats have decent bolstering and offer plenty of adjustments, while the ride feels planted and is smooth during daily commutes.
The tri-zone climate control is nice to have, but it takes a little while to get going. It's the same for the heated and ventilated seats. Oddly, the XT5 isn't as quiet as it ought to be, particularly at low speeds. Around town, you'll hear engine accessory drive noises, creaking interior panels and slight wind noise.
