The 2024 Blazer EV is Chevrolet's all-new and all-electric midsize SUV. First off, know that it has nothing to do with the regular Blazer SUV. The two vehicles share a name and similarly sporty styling but that's about it. Concealed beneath the Blazer EV's sheetmetal is hardware that General Motor uses for other EVs in its portfolio such as the Cadillac Lyriq and upcoming Chevrolet Equinox EV. You'll probably like this new Blazer EV if you're shopping for an electric vehicle that has a roomy interior, lots of range, and many helpful technology features.

Am I Ready for an EV?
EV ownership works best if you can charge (240V) at home or at work This typically means a 240V home installation, but you could also have a similar setup at your office or other places your car is already parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice unless you've got a plug-in hybrid, in which case overnight charging at home is feasible.
If you can’t charge at home, charging at a charging station could take at least 10x longer than at a gas station With public charging infrastructure still in its infancy, the user experience can be maddeningly inconsistent. Tesla owners tend to rave about the reliability and speed of the company's proprietary Supercharger stations, but rival DC fast options have thus far been plagued by technical issues and overcrowding. It's an evolving landscape and our best advice is to do your research on the available options for the EV you want to buy.
Adding a 240V home charging system could cost up to $1,600 or more If your existing electrical service can handle the additional demands of EV charging, you may be able to add Level 2 charging at home for less than a grand, including installation. But your costs will multiply if you need to upgrade your electrical panel or add a dedicated circuit.
zzdcar spotlight: The Blazer's range and power
The Blazer EV debuts with dual electric motors. There's one for powering the front wheels and one in back for the rear wheels, which gives the vehicle all-wheel drive. In zzdcar' testing, we've found that this Blazer can go the distance. In our real-world testing, it drove 320 miles on a single charge, which is more than most other rival dual-motor electric SUVs. A single-motor version with a higher-capacity battery will debut later on and should have even more maximum range. For the vehicle enthusiasts out there, Chevrolet has said a Blazer EV SS will eventually come out with 557 hp — good, Chevy says, for a mad-dash 0-60 mph run of less than 4 seconds.
Competitors to consider
Electric SUV shoppers have plenty to choose from. The Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y are the main domestic alternatives to the Blazer EV. The Mach-E comes in more configurations to suit a wider range of shoppers, while the Model Y is sportier and more fun to drive. We also rate the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and related Kia EV6 among our top-rated models. Check out our test team's Expert Rating below to learn more about how the new Blazer EV stacks up.

Performance
8.0/10How does the Blazer EV drive? We tested the Blazer EV RS with its available dual-motor powertrain. At our test track, it accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in an unremarkable 6.2 seconds. The Blazer EV isn't slow compared to a traditional gas-powered SUV — there's certainly enough power for everyday driving — but other dual-motor EVs we've tested are zippier and make it a lot easier to zoom up to highway speeds. The Blazer's emergency braking performance was also lackluster in our testing.
While the Blazer EV leaves a lot to be desired when it's driven with enthusiasm, we do give it credit for being an easy-to-drive EV in everyday circumstances. The brake regeneration is strong and adjustable, and it allows for one-pedal driving if you prefer the convenience of not having to press the brakes to come to a stop. The steering, which can be adjusted to provide different levels of hefty sportiness, also gives you a decent amount of feel for the road.
Comfort
8.5/10How comfortable is the Blazer EV? We're very impressed by the Chevy Blazer EV's smooth ride quality. It does a better job of gliding over bumps and ruts than most of our favorites like the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It's also quiet. Even at full highway speed, the interior remains free of wind and road noise. The only exception is the low-speed pedestrian warning sound (broadcasted externally to let people know you're coming), which we found too intrusive while sitting in the cabin.
Up front, the climate control system works quickly and effectively to heat or cool the cabin to keep you comfortable from a temperature standpoint. The Blazer EV would be even better in this category if it weren't for its front seats. We found they lack the support and comfort that you want for long trips.
