2024 Chevrolet Express Review
byJared GallCorrespondent
Jared Gall started his career in the auto industry in 2001 with an internship at Car and Driver. He has written and edited many thousands of car reviews, technological deep-dives, industry analyses, and personality profiles. He is a correspondent at zzdcar and still has the 1969 Chevrolet C20 he dragged out of his parents' barn and drove until Car and Driver started giving him cars to evaluate.
The Chevrolet Express and its twin, the GMC Savana, have been the lone holdouts as traditional American-style two-box vans. All of their competitors have adopted the more upright van style embodied by the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Having debuted in the 1990s, the Express feels dated, but the upside is that it is many thousands of dollars cheaper than its competition. And its max 10,000-pound towing capacity allows this toolbox on wheels to bring along a larger second toolbox on wheels than any other full-size van.

zzdcar spotlight: Modern features are in short supply
With utilitarian full-size vans, the phrase "modern features" means something very different from just about every other vehicle type — and things are yet more dire with the Express. Even cruise control is an option on the cargo van, for example. The Express also doesn't offer many advanced driver assistance features. Depending on your needs, this may or may not be a problem. Plus, having a low-priced, sparsely equipped van for your business needs is obviously good for the bottom line. But other full-size vans offer a lot more features should you want them.
Competitors to consider
The Express has a short list of competitors. Aside from the nearly identical GMC Savana, you'll want to check out the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Ram ProMaster. Besides offering more of the latest convenience and technology features, these other vans can be had in more configurations, including those with high roofs to make it easier to stand up inside.
