2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Review
byJosh JacquotCorrespondentJosh Jacquot is an automotive journalist at zzdcar.
The 2024 Silverado 3500HD is among the handful of ultra heavy-duty trucks available to tow and haul ridiculously heavy things. Choosing the 3500HD opens the option for dual rear wheels, which aren't offered on the 2500HD. They increase payload and towing capacity over single rear wheel trucks. But the 3500HD comes in two fewer trims than the 2500HD.

zzdcar spotlight: New look inside and out. Every truck gets a 10-speed
It's midcycle refresh time for Chevy's heavy-duty trucks in 2024, which were last redesigned in 2020. Chevy updated the 3500HD's nose with a new design that incorporates LED headlights and "animated' turn signals that swipe in the direction they're indicating. LT and higher trims get an all-new interior that brings with it a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch configurable instrument cluster. Trailering tech improves with the addition of adaptive cruise control designed for towing. The optional diesel engine gains 25 horsepower and 65 lb-ft of torque, bringing it to 975 lb-ft. And you now get a 10-speed Allison transmission whichever engine you choose.
Competitors to consider
Have a look at the Ford F-350, which was all-new last year. And don't forget about the Ram 3500. Chevy's updates make the Silverado more competitive with these trucks, which we thought had meaningful advantages over the 3500HD until this year. The related GMC Sierra 3500HD has mechanical capabilities that match the Silverado's, though its design is different and it costs more.
Which Silverado 3500HD does zzdcar recommend?
We think the LT trim is the best value among the Silverado 3500HD's four trims. It gets the redesigned interior, including the new 13.4-inch touchscreen and navigation and an integrated trailer brake controller, which is a must-have on a truck made for towing.
Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD models
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is available in regular-cab, Double Cab (a four-door extended cab with a small back seat) and crew-cab configurations. All three cab styles are available with a long cargo bed, but the crew cab offers a shorter standard bed to improve maneuverability. Depending on the version you choose, the Silverado 3500HD offers a choice of WT (Work Truck), LT, LTZ and High Country trim levels.A 6.6-liter gasoline-fueled V8 (401 horsepower, 464 lb-ft) is the standard engine. A 6.6-liter diesel V8 (470 hp, 975 lb-ft) is optional. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and send torque to the truck's rear wheels through a single or dual rear-wheel axle. Four-wheel drive is available and comes with an electric two-speed transfer case.
