The Ford F-450 Super Duty has been fully redesigned for 2023, with fresh styling inside and out, an updated powertrain lineup, and a whole host of new tech to help with towing, hauling and more. In fact, the F-250, F-350 and F-450 are new for this year. Towing and hauling are the F-450's specialty. It comes with a diesel-powered engine, dual rear wheels, a special wide-track front suspension and commercial-grade tires.

Avg. Large Truck
The new Super Duty isn't vastly different than before, with Ford focusing on refinement and making driving such a large vehicle even easier. That's good since trucks are being tasked with doing more than ever before. The interior has been completely redone, though it bears a resemblance to the current F-150 (which was all-new for 2021). The F-450 Super Duty is still suitable as a work truck; just get it with vinyl floors, vinyl upholstery and a bench seat. But it can also be a luxury truck with available two-tone leather upholstery; heated, ventilated and massaging seats; and an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.
There are plenty of other changes, too, with a lot of focus on improving or enhancing the Super Duty's tech. That doesn't just mean a bigger touchscreen display. Some of the trick towing features originally found on the current F-150 have made their way to the heavy-duty models. For example, the new Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system can automatically back up the truck to a trailer with a ball hitch and position it right underneath, which makes hooking up a trailer without a spotter exponentially easier. There's also a system that allows you to input the size and weight of your trailer and the truck will let you know if your load is properly balanced based on the trailer's tongue weight. The truck can also weigh how much payload you've put in the bed and how close you are to the max rating.
Although there are other heavy-duty models on the market, the F-450 is the only 450/4500 series truck that's available as a regular pickup for consumers. GM and Ram have trucks with similar capabilities, but those are chassis cab-style trucks for commercial use only. But it's important to note that you'll likely end up paying more for the F-450 than the F-350, Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or Ram 3500HD.
Which F-450 Super Duty does zzdcar recommend?
While the F-450 received some major changes for 2023, we still think the Lariat trim is the one to get. It has more standard features than the XL or XLT trim level and is available with a wider array of options for not a ton more cash. A big one for the Lariat is standard four-wheel drive. You can't have the F-450 Lariat with a regular cab, though it is available with a bed or as a chassis cab.
Ford F-450 Super Duty models
The 2023 F-450 Super Duty is available in six trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. Availability of bed and cab configurations varies by trim, but generally the F-450 is available in regular- or crew-cab (SuperCrew) configuration paired with either a 6.75-foot or an 8-foot bed. Starting this year, four-wheel drive is standard on all but the base XL trim, though it can be optioned on that trim too. Dual rear wheels are standard on all F-450 models. Keep reading for more information on the F-450's engines, standard features and major options.Unlike the F-250 and F-350 Super Dutys, the F-450 is only available with diesel power. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The standard 6.7-liter turbocharged diesel V8 makes 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. If that's not enough, a high-output variant of this engine cranks things up to 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic.
XL
The base F-450 Super Duty XL is fairly light on features, though the relatively no-frills feature list makes it great for work-truck duty. Standard equipment highlights include:

The Lariat is only available only as a four-door crew-cab truck. It builds on the XLT's equipment with:
LED headlights and LED bed lighting Power-folding and power-telescoping tow mirrors Rear parking sensors Remote start Keyless entry with push-buttons start Dual-zone automatic climate control Leather upholstery Power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation Heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel Power-adjustable pedals Heated outboard rear seatsThe Lariat also comes with these tech upgrades:
Digital instrument cluster screen 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display with navigation Eight-speaker B&O audio system with subwoofer Wireless charging pad Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning (alerts you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse) Rear automatic braking (applies the brakes automatically to avoid an imminent collision with an object behind the vehicle) Surround-view camera system (gives you a top-down view of the truck and its surroundings in tight parking situations)King Ranch
The crew cab-only King Ranch adds a bit of Western flair to the F-450. It includes all Lariat features plus:

The Platinum trim sits alongside the King Ranch but does without the latter's cowboy-esque styling. Features generally mirror those on the King Ranch. Changes include:
Revised exterior trim and styling Platinum-specific leather interior Massaging front seatsLimited
The F-450 Limited is just about as close to a luxury pickup as you'll find these days. It builds off the Platinum features with:
