2024 Ford Edge Review
byJosh JacquotCorrespondentJosh Jacquot is an automotive journalist at zzdcar.
The Edge offers ample space, intuitive controls, and a comfortable and peaceful cockpit relative to other two-row SUVs. It doesn't distinguish itself at being excellent in any one area but rather demonstrates broad competence across the board. But, at best, it's an unblemished example of middle-of-the-road adequacy. And it's also at the end of its lifecycle. For 2024 Ford is giving it the least significant send-off possible: It's doing nothing to change it.

zzdcar spotlight: The end of the Edge
Since 2018 Ford has expanded its spectrum of SUVs by adding three new nameplates into its not-a-car lineup (four if you think the electric Mustang Mach-E isn't a car). Those include the Bronco, Bronco Sport and EcoSport. In that same period it has fully redesigned its three mainstays, the Escape, Explorer and Expedition. So there's no shortage of relatively new SUV offerings bearing the Blue Oval. Given these other priorities it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Edge — last redesigned in 2015 — is not receiving much attention at Ford lately. Rumor has it this model will be replaced on the assembly line by electric SUVs this year. Nonetheless, the Edge is sticking around for the 2024 model year. Expect it to be the same roomy, quiet and comfortable SUV Ford has been producing for nine model years.
Competitors to consider
The Edge competes in the heart of the SUV market where most buyers shop and where there are many, many choices. That puts it up against some of the best competition, including Honda's excellent Passport, the car-like Subaru Outback and the hybrid-only Toyota Venza. The former two are well established with brand reputations for excellent utility and reliability. The Venza is a relative newcomer that offers fuel efficiency well beyond most offerings in this class.
Which Edge does zzdcar recommend?
The Edge comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is an option you'll not find at the base level in some competitors. And the base SE trim comes with attractive standard driver assist features like blind-spot warning and automated emergency braking. But we like the midlevel SEL trim, which adds synthetic leather upholstery, power-operated heated front seats, a better audio system and Ford's touchpad entry system, which some Ford loyalists won't do without.
Ford Edge models
The 2024 Ford Edge is available in five trim levels: SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium and the performance-focused ST. All Edge trims except for the ST use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (250 horsepower, 280 lb-ft) paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The ST gets a more powerful 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine (335 hp, 380 lb-ft) paired with a seven-speed automatic. Both engines feed power to the wheels through an all-wheel-drive system that's standard on all models.SE
