Overview
After a full redesign for 2023, the Ford F-350 moves into 2024 with only minor tweaks. This is the F-Series Super Duty truck to get when you need serious towing and hauling capability. An F-350 crew cab with four-wheel drive, the dual rear-wheel setup and the high-output diesel engine is rated to tow up to 28,000 pounds with a conventional trailer hitch, for example. Alternatively, the F-350 can haul up to 8,000 pounds in certain configurations. This isn't a simple beast of burden either. Ford offers loads of helpful technology features that range from big digital displays in the cabin to a multi-view towing camera system. The bottom line here is that Ford's Super Duty line is the most recently fully redesigned heavy-duty truck available, giving it highly competitive if not class-leading levels of towing, tech and luxury.
zzdcar spotlight: A wide spectrum of features and capability
The 2024 F-350 is designed to cover a wide range of use cases, from everyday work truck to private luxury-toy tow rig to night-on-the-town date ride. And thanks to its huge number of engine, cab and bed configurations, it does just that. But at the core of every F-350 is a serious ability to tow things as heavy as houses. Think of the XL trim as a fleet truck made for work applications. Its vinyl upholstery and flooring are pure utility. Upper trims offer every imaginable feature, including heated and ventilated leather front seats, heated rear seats, a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and a massive twin-panel sunroof.
Competitors to consider
There are three main competitors to the F-350 and two of them are nearly identical. The Chevy Silverado 3500HD and GMC Sierra 3500HD both offer a refresh for 2024, including revised exterior and interior styling and modernized infotainment screens. There's slightly more power from the diesel engine too. And don't forget the Ram 3500. It's the oldest truck of the group but still very competitive.
Which F-350 Super Duty does zzdcar recommend?
We think the XLT trim makes the most sense for most buyers because it makes available all three cab styles offered in the Super Duty lineup and comes standard with the upgraded 7.3-liter gas V8. It also makes both of the turbodiesel V8s available. But its flexibility when it comes to options doesn't stop there. It can be had with the latest towing technology and the Tremor Off-Road package. Add the XLT Premium package and you'll also get a long list of infotainment and driver assist features.
Ford F-350 Super Duty models
The 2024 Ford F-350 Super Duty comes in six trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited. Which trim you choose will, in some cases, determine what cab style you get. It is available in regular-cab, extended-cab (SuperCab), and crew-cab (SuperCrew) styles with a 6.75-foot or an 8-foot cargo bed. Only the F-350 SuperCrew is offered on all six trims. Keep reading for our full breakdown of the F-350's powertrain configurations, features and key options.Four engines are available: two gasoline V8s and a diesel V8 in two outputs. A 6.8-liter V8 making 400 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque is standard in the XL trim. Step up to the XLT trim, and the F-350 gets a 7.3-liter gasoline V8 with 430 hp and 485 lb-ft (optional with the XL). All F-350 models offer a choice between two available turbocharged 6.7-liter diesel V8s. In standard specification, the turbodiesel makes 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft, and this engine is standard with the Limited trim. A high-output version delivers 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. All four engines pair with a 10-speed automatic, and four-wheel drive is standard starting with the XLT trim (optional with the XL).
