With seating for up to nine passengers, the 2024 GMC Yukon XL is a vehicle for those who need to transport people and cargo in large volumes. Being a traditional body-on-frame SUV, the Yukon XL is also well suited for towing. The "XL" means it has a longer wheelbase than the regular Yukon and is essentially a spin-off of the Chevrolet Suburban. Compared to the Suburban, the Yukon XL has a slightly more premium cabin, but not so much as to step on the toes of the full-luxe Cadillac Escalade ESV.

The 2024 model year should be significant for both the standard Yukon and the Yukon XL. We're expecting them to receive a variety of updates that include freshened styling and a possible interior update with updated technology features. We also think it's likely that GMC will introduce a new and more powerful version of the Yukon's available diesel engine. We'll update our review once we know more later this year.
The GMC Yukon XL competes with other full-size SUVs, including the Ford Expedition Max and Jeep Wagoneer L. The Jeep is perhaps the Yukon XL's closest non-GM rival as it's positioned as a semi-premium offering with upscale materials in the cabin and a long list of standard convenience features. If you need a big truck-based SUV to haul your family, luggage and/or your boat, the GMC Yukon XL is an attractive option.
Which Yukon XL does zzdcar recommend?
GMC hasn't released complete official information on the 2024 Yukon XL as of this writing. We'll update our recommendation if anything changes, but based on last year's model we think the Denali is the way to go. If you're buying a Yukon XL instead of a Suburban, you might as well go all in for the experience.
