GMC introduced the 2024 HUMMER SUV in late spring of 2023, finally offering this famous nameplate for those who didn't need a pickup.
Based on the same Ultium platform used for the Silverado EV and the HUMMER EV, the SUV version was aimed at those willing to get more from a vehicle than just transportation from A to B. Besides providing comfort and supercar acceleration times, it also boasted serious offroad abilities thanks to its crab-walk feature. Furthermore, it could power a house for more than a month thanks to its large battery pack.
When GMC designed the SUV version of the HUMMER EV, it didn't just cover the bed and call it a day. It reduced the wheelbase and, as a result, it also shrunk the overall length. Still, the front fascia remained similar to its pickup sibling, with that light signature between the headlights. On the lower side, the automaker installed an aluminum shield. From its profile, the HUMMER EV SUV featured flared wheel arches and, strangely for such a vehicle, frameless door windows. Finally, at the back, the automaker installed the spare wheel attached to the rear side-hinged tailgate.
Since customers should have to pay a six-figure price for the car, GMC offered them a luxurious interior, available with Nappa leather seats. Moreover, the Infinity Roof with glass panels that covered the cabin provided a pleasant, airy ambiance. These could've been removed and stored in the large trunk. For the rear passengers, GMC installed a bench seat fit for three full-grown adults. As expected from an EV truck, the HUMMER EV SUV featured two displays on the dashboard: one for the instrument panel and another for the infotainment system.
Thanks to its three-motor setup and the 170 kWh battery pack placed in the floor, the big SUV could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-97 kph) in less than four seconds. Its air suspension allowed it to either lower or increase the ground clearance, depending on the situations.
