2024 Hyundai Sonata Review
byJosh JacquotCorrespondentJosh Jacquot is an automotive journalist at zzdcar.
Hyundai's play with the 2024 Sonata is a familiar one: Offer more car for the same or lower price than rivals and back it up with a warranty no one else can match. And it works. Few other midsize sedans supply the abundance of tech and driver assist features the Sonata offers for the same money. Accompanying this year's thorough refresh is a simplified model lineup that improves the base Sonata's standard equipment and eliminates one powertrain.

zzdcar spotlight: 2024 Sonata gets a big update
You can spot this year's Sonata by its distinctive-looking styling. Up front is a full-width headlight bar and a more aggressive-looking lower grille. Inside, Hyundai added a single curved display that houses a digital instrument panel and a new 12.3-inch touchscreen. The touchscreen supports wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is a new addition for 2024. The 2024 Sonata's lineup is also revised. Last year's base SE trim has been discontinued, leaving the former midtier SEL trim as the least expensive way to get a Sonata. The previous turbocharged 1.6-liter engine is also gone. For 2024, your powertrain choices are the base 2.5-liter engine (which now is available with all-wheel drive), the fuel-sipping Sonata Hybrid and the sporty turbocharged Sonata N Line that makes a robust 290 horsepower.
Competitors to consider
It's worth your time to check out other top midsize contenders that include the Honda Accord, Kia K5 and Toyota Camry. The Accord has long been a sales success; it was redesigned last year and has a new look and an available hybrid powertrain. Toyota's Camry is another well-known sedan but the current iteration is getting a bit outdated. Finally, there's the Kia K5. It shares a lot of technology features and mechanical bits with the Sonata, though you can't get it as a hybrid. Among this group the updated Sonata easily stands out. Check back soon for our test team's full report.
Which Sonata does zzdcar recommend?
Get the Sonata SEL for the best blend of equipment and value. It's available with the base engine or a hybrid powertrain. The SEL Hybrid costs a little more but you should be able to recoup your costs after just a few years of ownership thanks to its superior fuel economy.
Hyundai Sonata models
The 2024 Sonata is a midsize sedan available in four trims: SEL, N Line, SEL Hybrid and Limited Hybrid. It's important to know the difference between them since there are three available powertrains. The SEL is the mainstream Sonata. It comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque), an eight-speed automatic transmission, and either front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. Then there's the N Line. It's the sporty Sonata and it has a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder (290 horsepower, 311 lb-ft of torque). You can't get all-wheel drive with the N Line, however. The SEL Hybrid and Limited Hybrid trims use a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic and a hybrid system to produce a total of 190 horsepower. These hybrids are also front-wheel-drive only but get the best fuel economy of the lineup. Keep reading for more information about the hybrid and the Sonata's standard and optional features.
