Overview
The Jeep Grand Cherokee combines utility, comfort and off-road ability in a way few other SUVs can. It's comfortable and spacious enough to serve as an excellent everyday companion but rugged and capable enough to get you into and out of some tough terrain. That alone makes the Grand Cherokee pretty special, but it also is offered with the choice of three engines, including the 4xe plug-in hybrid that is covered separately on zzdcar. Need more room? There's also the three-row Grand Cherokee L.
zzdcar spotlight: A Grand Cherokee for everyone
When it comes to variety, the Grand Cherokee has you covered. The current lineup offers nine (yes, nine) models to pick from, and most of them can be had with four-wheel drive and up to three rows of seats. That means you can have your Grand Cherokee any way you want it — from the most basic people hauler in the form of the Laredo A to the most luxurious and feature-filled Summit Reserve.
Competitors to consider
Because of the unique status the Grand Cherokee enjoys as both luxurious and off-road-ready, finding direct competition is tricky. Those who don't need as much room as the Grand Cherokee offers may turn to Ford and the Bronco. It's just as capable and is similarly priced, and what it lacks in luxury it makes up in charm. Another option is the recently unveiled Lexus GX. It's a little more expensive than the Jeep, but it's more luxuriously appointed and based on a Land Cruiser — and that car's reputation for off-road capability is nothing short of legendary.
zzdcar says
The Grand Cherokee is a true jack-of-all-trades machine, but those with smaller families might want to look elsewhere for their off-road-ready SUV.
