2025 Jeep Wagoneer Review
byKurt NiebuhrSenior Vehicle Test Editor
Kurt Niebuhr has worked in the automotive industry since 2005. A automotive photographer by trade, Kurt is now one of zzdcar' high-performance test drivers. He's driven and photographed hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles all over the world, so Kurt's library of automotive experiences would certainly make for a good book. When not dreaming about getting his racing license or trying to buy out-of-date film for his cameras, Kurt can usually be found cursing at his 1966 Mustang.

Overview
After laying dormant for nearly 30 years, Jeep reintroduced the Wagoneer nameplate as a new full-size luxury SUV in 2022. Capable of seating up to eight passengers, the Wagoneer also impresses with tons of interior and cargo space as well as boasting a 10,000-pound max tow rating. As an extra surprise, the Wagoneer is powered not by a V8 engine but instead uses a twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, which generates 420 horsepower and an impressive 486 lb-ft of torque.
zzdcar spotlight: Twin-turbo power
As much as you'd expect a full-size American SUV to use V8 power for motivation, the Wagoneer takes a more European approach. Its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine handily outpowers the old 5.7-liter V8 option and is more efficient to boot. In two-wheel-drive form, the large Wagoneer is rated to return 20 mpg combined and 19 mpg when equipped with four-wheel drive. Those are slightly better numbers than the equivalent Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition put up.
Competitors to consider
The aforementioned Tahoe and Expedition are the Wagoneer's closest domestic rivals. But the Wagoneer has set its sights on stealing sales from luxury European SUVs like the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. The Wagoneer might have an uphill battle when it comes to matching the luxury cachet of those brands, but it easily outhauls and outtows its German competition.
zzdcar says
While Jeep has said an electric version of the Wagoneer is on its way, we expect the gas-powered big Jeep to soldier on with minimal changes into 2025.
