Overview
Mazda’s compact crossover, the CX-5 has been a smash hit for the brand since its inception, and for good reason. The CX-5 feels like a bargain luxury SUV with its premium interior finishes and excellent driving dynamics. The only reason we’re predicting that this model won’t be revised in the future is because of its nearly identical sibling, the Mazda CX-50. If the CX-5 continues into the 2025 model year, it will likely be with few changes before it eventually meets its maker.
zzdcar spotlight: A surprising driver’s car
You might not picture the Mazda CX-5 as a competent daily driver, but we’ve praised this SUV for its fantastic driving dynamics. We prefer the optional turbocharged engine and its plentiful power to go with the SUV’s superb steering feel and sport-tuned suspension. At this price point, it's hard to find a more rewarding SUV to drive than the CX-5.
Competitors to consider
An obvious competitor to the CX-5 is the Mazda CX-50. The two SUVs start within a few hundred dollars of each other, and the CX-50 is more modern with rugged styling and an equally impressive interior. Outside of the Mazda brand, we love the Kia Sportage and more traditional alternatives such as the Honda CR-V.
zzdcar says
While the CX-5 was nice while it lasted, Mazda has given car shoppers a worthy successor with the CX-50.
