No matter what you're looking for from your midsize luxury SUV, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne probably delivers it. As with all Porsches, the Cayenne prioritizes performance and driver engagement, but the SUV still offers loads of luxury and tech and it's highly customizable. Still, this latest-generation Cayenne has been out since 2019 without a whole lot of changes so it's nice to see that Porsche is making a raft of updates to the 2024 Cayenne.

On the inside, the Cayenne sports a new 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster (the same one used in the all-electric Taycan), a redesigned center console with new climate controls, and a relocated gear shifter that's now to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard. The 12.3-inch center touchscreen hasn't changed, but it displays Porsche's latest infotainment system. There's also a new optional 10.9-inch touchscreen that's placed in front of the passenger, a feature that's not very common.
Porsche also reduced the number of models to just three: the base Cayenne, Cayenne E-Hybrid and Cayenne S. The high-performance Turbo GT is still around but only with the Cayenne Coupe that's separately reviewed on zzdcar. Last year's Turbo, GTS and Turbo S E-Hybrid models could return next year. To make up for the missing V8 models, Porsche upgraded the V6 on the Cayenne S to a 468-horsepower turbocharged V8. The base Cayenne's turbocharged V6 remains but gets an additional 13 hp and 36 lb-ft of torque. That V6 is also used in the plug-in hybrid version, the E-Hybrid. The PHEV Cayenne takes the V6 and mates it with a new electric motor, bringing total system output to 463 hp. The hybrid's battery pack has also grown considerably in capacity. That should result in more electric-only driving range than last year's 15 miles, but how much more was unknown as of our review's publication.
There's still more. Porsche added more standard features to all models including blind-spot warning, lane keeping assistance, keyless entry, a wireless smartphone charger and Porsche's matrix-design LED adaptive headlights. Porsche also upgraded the Cayenne's suspension with new shock absorbers that improve ride comfort and handling. To top it off, an adaptive suspension, dubbed the Porsche Active Suspension Management system, is now standard.
The Cayenne's 2024 refresh has made the Cayenne an even more compelling luxury SUV, particularly if performance is one of your higher priorities. Still, it might be hard to pick among other options including the Audi Q8, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
Which Cayenne does zzdcar recommend?
If you're in the market for a luxury performance SUV that's in the area of six figures, why not splurge for the top-spec Cayenne S model? Our recommended trim costs about $15K more than the base Cayenne, but its V8 engine gives you an additional 120 horsepower. You also get sportier wheels and red brake calipers. It's easy to add additional luxury, tech or performance with the multitude of packages and options Porsche offers.
Porsche Cayenne models
The Porsche Cayenne is a five-passenger midsize luxury SUV. For 2024, the number of trim levels shrink from nine to just three: Base, E-Hybrid and S. Each trim level is powered by a different engine (outlined below), but all trims use an eight-speed automatic transmission and come standard with all-wheel drive. All three trims are similarly equipped, but Porsche offers many option packages and stand-alone features. The sporty Cayenne Coupe is reviewed separately.
