What is the Ram 1500 Rev?
The Ram 1500 Rev will be the first Ram electric truck, so it's a pretty big deal. It marks the debut of a new body-on-frame Ram platform designed specifically for EV use. If the Ram 1500 holds true, the production truck will have forward-facing third-row seating and a folding "midgate" that lets you extend the cargo area on top of those rearmost seats (remember the Chevy Avalanche?). While many important specs are still under wraps until the truck gets closer to production, Ram has lifted the veil on some key details.
At least in concept form, the Ram 1500 Rev is built on an 800-volt architecture, capable of lightning-quick 350-kW charging speeds. Specifically, the truck can add 100 miles in 10 minutes. Its overall range is unconfirmed at this time, but Ram claims it will be the segment leader. The electric Ram truck will have two electric motors and all-wheel drive, laying the groundwork for a presumably large power output and big towing capability.
It wouldn't shock us to see many of the concept Ram Revolution's technology highlights make it into the production model. They include the twin 14.2-inch displays, four-wheel steering and an adaptive air suspension. More novel features such as the Revolution's three rows of seating and its massive cargo bed extending to 18 feet in length would certainly make the production Ram electric truck stand out from its competitors.
Speaking of, that list is growing with each new model year. The Rivian R1T, Ram 1500 and GMC Hummer EV are already on sale. Meanwhile, the Chevy Silverado EV and Sierra EV are poised to enter the market in the coming months. We'll have to wait for the full production Ram 1500 Rev to see how it stacks up.
