Overview
The 2025 Subaru BRZ is one of the last affordable sports cars on the market. It, along with its closely related cousin, the Toyota GR86, is a rear-wheel-drive coupe with an inline four-cylinder engine. Rumors have hinted at a turbocharged engine coming down the line, but it doesn't appear that will be happening for the 2025 model year, and we don't expect any major changes.
The BRZ is a specialist in a world where generalists are seizing the day. Subaru focuses almost exclusively on providing an engaging driving experience, pushing comfort and practicality aside. Yes, there is a second row, but it is not a comfortable place for adults. You can fit a car seat back there, and to the brave souls who put in that kind of effort, we salute you.
zzdcar spotlight: Fun, fun, fun until Daddy takes the BRZ away
We may have mentioned this already, but the Subaru BRZ is a blast to drive. It's light enough that you can comfortably drift it through corners but not so light that you worry about a lack of grip. This is a sports car that will make your daily driving much more enjoyable, but it's most at home at a track where it can really show off its impressive handling. We added a 2022 Subaru to our long-term fleet and were impressed by its handling and styling. The BRZ tS variant was added for the 2024 model year and includes improved performance. You can also get the BRZ with upgraded Brembo brakes and painted alloy wheels.
Competitors to Consider
The 2025 Subaru BRZ's biggest competitor is probably its cousin, the Toyota GR86. The biggest difference between the two is suspension tuning and styling — we won't begrudge you picking the one you think looks best. You should also take a look at the Mazda MX-5 Miata, which is the quintessential big fun in a small package sports car.

We don't expect any major changes for the 2025 Subaru BRZ, but we'll keep you posted as we learn more about one of our favorite sports cars.
