2024 Tesla Model S First Impressions

What is the Model S?
The Tesla Model S was an EV pioneer, showing that electric vehicles could offer big range and performance in a single package (that also represented a reasonable facsimile of a luxury car). Though the Model S will be entering its 13th year since its 2012 debut, the electric sedan has been refreshed regularly with new models and enhancements even if it is still technically in its first generation.
It's hard to say what we can expect exactly for 2024. Tesla is constantly changing the names of its trim levels. But our best guess is that there will be both a long-range all-wheel-drive version like its current base model as well as a performance-focused variant (Plaid or otherwise). Whether the controversial yoke remains or it switches back to a regular steering wheel is anybody's guess. If given a wish list, we'd ask for better brakes to provide a more even match for the Plaid's prodigious acceleration. (It's still the Tesla Model S.) Perhaps a set of carbon ceramics would do the trick?
The Model S broke ground with its debut, but there is now a crowded field of all-electric contenders that offer a similar mix of range, luxury and performance. Most notable are the Lucid Air, with its max range of more than 500 miles, and the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which offers more luxurious trappings. Also in the mix are the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT.

Details on the 2024 Model S are very thin, but we expect Tesla will stick with the same formula for its flagship sedan.
