2025 Toyota Corolla Review
by the zzdcar Experts12/19/2023
Overview
The Corolla is a stalwart of the Toyota lineup. After 12 generations, the little sedan is still, for many, the standard bearer when it comes to affordable, reliable, easy-to-use personal transportation. The Corolla is offered in a number of trims with distinct powertrains and two different body styles (sedan and hatch). There's plenty of variety, but they lose none of what makes the Corolla so great: its beautiful simplicity.
zzdcar spotlight: A new Corolla on the horizon?
While the 2025 Corolla won't change much from the 2024 model, we fully expect there to be a redesign around the corner. Toyota has taken to heavily modifying current platforms and calling them redesigns as of late — it's done so with the Camry and the GR86 coupe. That said, the changes to both of those cars under the umbrella of redesigns were significant regardless of the fact that parts of the internal structure were older. We expect the Corolla to get the same treatment, with new looks, a fresh interior, new tech, and a new body draped over the same chassis for the 2026 model year.
Competitors to consider
Sedans may not be as fashionable as they once were — thanks to the American market's endless hunger for crossovers and SUVs — but this segment is still plenty competitive. The most obvious opposition to the Corolla is the Honda Civic. Simply put, the Civic is newer, nicer to drive, and features a much nicer interior space. The ony con is it's more expensive in any trim you're looking at. A cheaper alternative is the Nissan Sentra, which recently got a styling refresh and is bang up-to-date in terms of driver aids, but the Sentra is slow and not quite as nice to drive as the Corolla. It also doesn't offer a hybrid for those who want to save on ever-pricier gas station visits.
zzdcar says
The Corolla is a standard bearer for the modern small sedan, but don’t count out its competitors when looking into buying a compact.
