Kurt Niebuhr has worked in the automotive industry since 2005. A automotive photographer by trade, Kurt is now one of zzdcar' high-performance test drivers. He's driven and photographed hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles all over the world, so Kurt's library of automotive experiences would certainly make for a good book. When not dreaming about getting his racing license or trying to buy out-of-date film for his cameras, Kurt can usually be found cursing at his 1966 Mustang.

Overview
Toyota's RAV4 is a popular compact SUV with seating for five, available all-wheel drive, and plenty of versatility on tap. Adding to the attractiveness of the RAV4 are its roomy interior, large cargo area and solid fuel economy. Speaking of fuel economy, Toyota does offer a RAV4 in both hybrid and plug-in hybrid form, but we review those separately. We don't have any official information about the 2025 model year, but based on Toyota's traditional timeline for vehicle redesigns, it's possible we could see an overhauled RAV4.
zzdcar spotlight: Lots of space
Despite its compact footprint, the RAV4 doesn't feel the least bit claustrophobic. The rear seats offer a generous amount of space and even recline for taller passengers. Cargo capacity is bordering on cavernous. With 37.5 cubic feet of storage, the RAV4 offers more cargo capacity than many of its rivals and even some larger midsize SUVs.
Competitors to consider
The RAV4 has no shortage of competition in this segment. Solid choices, like the practical Honda CR-V, stylish Maxda CX-5 and tech-forward Kia Sportage offer thier own take on the segment. If you don't need as much space as the RAV4 offers, the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Volkswagen Taos are good options, while the Honda Passport and Toyota's own Highlander offer a bit more more space and power than the RAV4.
zzdcar says
Redesign or not for 2025, we expect the Toyota RAV4 to remain very competitive in the crowded compact SUV segment. We like its spacious interior, smooth ride and sizable cargo capacity. Whether you're looking for a basic SUV for urban living or something with all-wheel drive and a little more adventure in its DNA, the RAV4 has you covered.
