Overview
The Toyota Sienna was redesigned for 2021 to kick off its fourth generation. We're expecting the 2025 Sienna to arrive without significant changes and that's not a bad thing. In a segment that's small but competitive, the Sienna continues to hold its own among its minivan rivals. Toyota decided to make the latest iteration with only a hybrid powertrain in the name of fuel economy. Space and cargo room are the Sienna's forte, and it comes with terrific driver assist features and practical technology that make driving pleasant. There's a reason the Sienna has survived through the years.
zzdcar spotlight: Riding high on hybrid powertrain
The newest Toyota Sienna is now manufactured with only a hybrid powertrain that consists of a four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that churns out 245 horsepower. In zzdcar' testing, we achieved an outstanding 42.7 mpg in the front-wheel-drive version that carries an EPA estimate of 36 mpg combined. The only downside for exceptional savings at the pump? Lackadaisical acceleration, even by the standards of this mostly unhurried class.
Competitors to consider
The Sienna is a great choice if you're in the market for a minivan. The segment is small, but there are other alluring vans that you can choose from. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid currently ranks No. 1 in zzdcar' rankings and can go more than 30 miles of just electric power. You can also look into the formidable and fun-to-drive Honda Odyssey and the stylish Kia Carnival.
zzdcar says
Although SUVs are all the rage nowadays and minivans seem to be slowly evaporating, the Sienna continues to be a reliable choice for family transportation.
