Amazon Driver Losing His Cool Shows Exactly What Is Wrong With America
Amazon Driver Losing His Cool Shows Exactly What Is Wrong With America-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:12:19

A viral video originally posted to TikTok is making waves Tuesday as it shows a clearly emitting a string of swears followed by a barbaric yawp on a quiet suburban street.

Kristina Danielle Zagwyn posted the , where it currently sits at over 100,000 likes and 14,000 shares. The video is being reposted all over the internet, from to YouTube. In it, an Amazon delivery driver can be heard yelling “shit!” repeatedly before devolving into a shout that unmistakably came straight from a shattered, overworked human soul:

The comments on the original video area mainly overflowing with support for the poor overworked driver. One user said they used to deliver for UPS and that they knew the feeling of finding a package buried somewhere at the end of a long day and losing it. Zagwyn told users she and her husband tried to help the driver, but he was too far gone in his breakdown. She has promised to post a follow-up video of the interaction.

Amazon drivers have a whole lot to breakdown about. Drivers work 10-hour shifts, sometimes having to deliver 400 packages in one go, while they are spied on by in-truck cameras and cellphone apps. Drivers go to extremes to meet the intense quotas set by Amazon, such as disabling safe-driving monitoring apps in order to complete their deliveries within the time Amazon allows. They also skip lunches and even bathroom breaks, forcing drivers to pee in bottles and to complete their deliveries.

Amazon is one of the most profitable retailers in the world, bringing in $11.6 billion in 2020, which puts it just behind Wal-Mart’s $14.9 billion for the most profitable retailer in the U.S., according to magazine. Amazon’s owner, Jeff Bezos, is the first person in modern history . You’d think such a company could afford to treat the people who make their entire business model function with a little more respect but, as one commenter on Reddit put it, “something is broken in America.”

Comment Of The Day: Crash Test Brothers Edition
So here’s an anecdote from my father’s youth. When he was in his teens he had an early 1970s Ford Mustang Mach 1. He had been working on the car in between shifts baling hay out in the family fields. When it came time for dinner, my grandmother told...

Bugatti Sold Out Of Its $33,000 Kiddie Car In Three Weeks
The , a new take on the tiny car Ettore Bugatti made for his youngest son’sfourth birthdayin 1926, is a lot of things. You could call it a revival of history, as does, or perhaps “the only Bugatti most of us can afford.” Or you could take the most...

Off-Center Badging: Good
I just got back from driving the . You’ll see the review tomorrow, but I just wanted to note quickly how much I like the off-center badging on the car’s front grille. It’s classy. Obviously, this isn’t the only Mustang that does it. The also has an off-center Shelby...

The First-Generation Toyota Prius Deserves To Be "Reimagined"
I remember when the first-generation Prius was launched here in 2000. It was unlike anything else available at the time, from a stylistic, technological, and sociological standpoint. It was an economy-focused penalty box of a subcompact, but the green-focused among us grabbed hold. It was an important touchstone in...

How Your Car Gets Crash Tested
You’ve seen the annual “” car ads and , with cars slammed into objects as their own debris pours down around them like a snowstorm. Perhaps the latter even convinced you not to buy a car you so desperately wanted. But that’s just a small part of determining which vehicles...

The Legal Argument That Could Destroy Uber Is About To Be Tested
On October 23, an arbitrator will sit down in New York office and hear arguments in a case that could determine the ride-hail giant’s future. It is not about the employment status of a single driver, but rather the very legality of Surge Pricing, Uber’s flagship feature that adjusts...
