Bask In The Glory Of Kevin Harvick's Extra-Long Tire-Shredding NASCAR Burnout
Bask In The Glory Of Kevin Harvick's Extra-Long Tire-Shredding NASCAR Burnout-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:18

Whether you obsessively follow NASCAR’s every move or not, you have to admit: the post-race burnouts are glorious. There’s just something about the way the V8 engine note reverberates off the grandstands of an oval track that gives me goosebumps every time.

Kevin Harvick celebrated his first Cup Series win ever and free pass into the 2017 playoffs at Texas with a particularly long and epic burnout, thoroughly shredding his tires and filling his car’s cabin with smoke.

This was no brief . No, it was a parade of roasted meats in front of the grandstands for fans to savor.

Jalopnik contributor Kurt Bradley, who was watching up in the stands for this one, said that the burnout appeared to stretch about 200 feet long. The aftermath of this epic burnout on Harvick’s car is incredible:

Hilariously, burnouts like this have been lately (even by beloved driver ) as a potential way for NASCAR teams to hide illegal modifications to cars.

Yet I can’t imagine going to a NASCAR race without seeing the winner light up the tires afterwards. It’s the one last chance we get to savor that glorious V8 sound. Maybe they should rein them in to keep the car intact—just in case—but please, give us the burnouts forever and ever.

In fact, if someone just wanted to take a NASCAR race car to a burnout contest just to indulge our deepest desires for smoke and noise, that would rule.
