Buy This Alfa Romeo SZ Before It Hurts Somebody
Buy This Alfa Romeo SZ Before It Hurts Somebody-April 2024

Alfa Romeo’s Sport Zagato is a weapon. I don’t mean that it’s good on track or particularly fast, though it’s no slouch at either. No, I mean it’s a weapon in the sense that it’s been well trained and it’s full of sharp edges. This thing is one of Zagato’s more holy-shit-1990s designs, and it all culminates in a car so sharp it could slice your honey baked ham just by looking at it. And for that reason alone, I really want it.

It’s not a particularly pretty car, but somehow all of these edges and angles and slab-sides work together in a way that is appealing. It’s fetching in the kind of way that a building is. It doesn’t inspire physical attraction quite so much as it does inquisitive glances. It’s no Miura, that’s for sure.

Powered by a 3-liter V6 with 207 horsepower, this rear-wheel-drive army of one is based on the same platform as the Alfa “compact executive car” 75 sedan. The suspension, however, was pulled from Alfa’s IMSA race car, engineered by the works rally team, and input from Koni. With original equipment Pirelli PZeroes in 205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear, this ridiculous little sports car could, , corner as high as 1.4G, which was absolutely bonkers for 1990.

Every single SZ was built in this color combination, and only 1036 examples were produced. About 10% of these were exported to Japan, where they were a huge hit for some reason.

If you want to have the raddest car on your block, which also happens to look like a block of cheese mated with an aircraft carrier, buy this Alfa ASAP.

For $3,500, Vaya Con Dios
Despite its fervently religious livery, today's HiJet doesn't require an act of faith to appreciate its cuteness. It's price on the other hand may need divine intervention. The most common comment about yesterday's was no. That was followed by Hell no, with oh Hellz no close behind. In the end,...

For $18,995, Show Some Civic Pride
Today's Honda has less miles than the worlds worst jazz collection. Does that lack of use however, make its price a deal by a country mile? Before we get to today's Civics class, let's review how yesterday's faired. First off, let's check through the list of likables: Station wagon? Yes...

2014 Suzuki SX4 S-Cross: The Jalopnik European Review
The new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is a much larger crossover than the versatile but quite underrated original SX4. Since it's built in Hungary, it was my duty to test it for you even if , but I ended up with more questions than answers. (: I told Suzuki that although...

Volvo Just Proved Wagons Are Better Than Crossovers
Volvo Just Proved Wagons Are Better Than Crossovers
The Volvo XC60 and V60 are capable vehicles in both their segments, but and comparing their specs, I can't imagine why one would spend more on the crossover than the wagon. Here lies, in my opinion, a strong business case to consider wagons over crossovers. To be clear about one...

For $9,800, Embrace Your Checker'd Past
In the 1975 film of the same name, Dustin Hoffman's character paid dearly - or was it toothily - to be the Marathon Man. Today's Checker Marathon is a lot easier on the teeth, but is its price still too dear? Chrysler's Sebring really gets no respect whatsoever. That's too...

For $79,995, Smoke 'Em If You’ve Got ‘Em
The Marlboro Man died of lung cancer, how's that for a non-ironic passing. Today's Marlboro Syclone doesn't need a Surgeon General warning, but will its price still prove bad for the heart? Do you have a collection of children's toys - say Star Wars action figures - that you keep...
