For $2,999, Viva Los Fiero!
For $2,999, Viva Los Fiero!-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:09

So many of Pontiac’s mid-enginers have been perverted into faux-rraris and the like that it’s refreshing to find one that’s stock. Today’s Fiero isn’t stock however, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take stock of its fresh price.

Despite being Lincoln’s best seller in Mexico, the Mark LT luxury pickup never made much of a dent in the global truck market. That was much the same case for its Blackwood predecessor and its fancy pants carpeted bed. And, with a 69% Crack Pipe vote, yesterday’s custom looked unlikely to change perceptions about the value of Luxury pickups any time soon.

You know what never needs an opinion adjustment? That’s right my friends, Pontiac Fieros. That deceased brand’s lone mid-engine offering has long been maligned by many over the years, mostly by those who probably only know the car in its initial misguided positioning as a commuter car saddled with the deplorable Iron Puke four and fun-sapping automatic.

Today’s however sports the 2.8-litre V6 and a 5-speed- gifts respectively, from Chevrolet and Muncie/Getrag. Both of those were introduced on the Fiero a year earlier, as was the longer buttressed GT body. The Fiero's plastic panels helped make such body changes cheaper than with steel, and made aftermarket modifications easy peasey.

This car has been modded, but only to the extent of paint, decals, and some underbody neon knighthood. Oh, and the interior has been dressed up to look like Nicki Minaj’s bathroom.

The T-top equipped GT is claimed to have 180K under it belt, but less on the Chevy mill as that has been replaced at some point along the way. Other newness can be found in the A/C - important in its current Nevada location - and headliner. That last item was probably not due to wear but to suicide as having an unblinking view of the purple leopard print covering the seats and floors might just drive such a desperate act.

The rest of the interior is, as you might expect, angular and filled with those grey plastic knobs and switches for which Pontiac once had such a passion and which likely were contributors to the brand’s demise.

On the outside, you can’t get any more zany than a light purple metal flake paint job with yellow decal accents and “BLO’ ME EDITION” emblazoned on the fender. The seller says the yellow basket weaves have been powder coated, and have been wrapped in what he also says are new Falcon tires, whatever third world manufacture those are.

Fieros have been disparaged over the years, frequently without warrant. This GT is one that contrastingly has been shown a lot of love over the years, for better or for worse. The question today however, is whether or not its $2,999 price tag will get any love from you.

What do you think, is this ’87 Fiero GT worth $2,999? Or, is that a price that REALLY makes this a BLO’ ME EDITION?

You decide!
