Rivian Delays R1S Deliveries Until the End of the Year
Rivian Delays R1S Deliveries Until the End of the Year-April 2024

Rivian R1S

Rivian has had its fair share of troubles lately. From a , to posting , hitting customers with on vehicles they already ordered (which was then quickly walked back), and now delays for its second, badly needed model. reports, via , that potential R1S owners were notified that their EV SUV would be delayed.

Initially, it was reported that deliveries . That then moved up to . But from reading the owner forums, many had Spring 2022 delivery dates. That is until this email went out to R1S order holders:

Thank you for your preorder and your commitment to helping us create a more sustainable world. As we continue to assess our supply chain and build plans, we want to provide an update on your estimated delivery window.

Your delivery window estimate is based on your preorder date, delivery location and current configuration. Here’s why your window has shifted:

Supply chain

As we’ve continued to navigate a tight supply chain, we’ve had to reduce complexity wherever possible, including prioritizing certain build combinations over others.Service Infrastructure

We continue to prioritize deliveries in where service infrastructure is in place so that we can provide the full ownership experience to Rivian owners from day one.

We’re grateful for your continued support and will continue to keep you updated. Your preorder is a vote for finding better ways of doing things on a planet that needs all of us to innovate for the future. If you have any questions, please to us.

Thank you again for being on this journey with us.

Some owners are hopeful as they haven’t received an email; others put their updated delivery dates in the forum. One owner had their date moved not so far out. “My R1S Launch Edition moved from April-May 2022 to August-September 2022. Not as bad as I was expecting” they wrote.

Another, who has been waiting since 2019, the first-day order banks opened up, got their end of the year timeframe. “Just got our email 3 minutes ago. Your Launch Edition R1S estimated delivery window is October - December 2022. We pre-ordered the day they announced. Nov 27ths 2019” they said.

As of now, Rivian gave no other reasons for the delays though I wouldn’t rule out the double punch of the chip shortage and supply chain issues affecting manufacturing.

For $6,900, What’s A Ute?
Ned Flanders drove a Metro, and when implored by his wife Maude to go faster so as to escape a clingy Homer Simpson, he screamed I can’t, it’s a Gee-ohhh! Today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe custom pickup may be similarly lethargic and Geo-riffic, but will you find its price...

2014 Lexus IS: The Jalopnik Review
The entry level luxury sport sedan game is mad fierce, y’all. In that segment the Lexus IS has always been the kind of car that finishes solidly in the middle of the pack. With a (mostly) new IS for 2014, Lexus aims to change that. (: Lexus needed me to...

For $1,300, Looks Aren’t Everything
It goes without saying that in general Toyota’s Camry is the automotive equivalent of warm milk laced with Ambien. Contrastingly, today’s All-Trac is ugly enough to keep you up at night, but is its price worth losing sleep over? Trying to sell a heavily customized car or truck is akin...

Forum Trashes BMW Owner Who Had M3 Delivered In Wrong Shade Of Blue
If you are dealing with a high-priced luxury or sports car, it is almost 100% impossible to complain about that vehicle on the Internet without someone alleging that you sound like a whiny prick. One M3 buyer who says he got screwed over by BMW is learning that lesson right...

For $12,000, What The El?
Called “El Cedes”, by its seller, today’s custom El Camino carries so much audacity that you may wonder if it has room for anything else. Of course it’s up to you to determine if its price is also weighing it down. When given the choice at a fine dining establishment,...

1967 BMW 1602: The Jalopnik Classic Review
If you ever come across the opportunity to drive one of BMW's Neue Klasse (New Class) cars, you need to seize it. Even 50 years after they first debuted they're just as good as you've heard, if not better. I've always had a love for these cars. I love their...
