If there’s one thing a rear-engined car is simply marvelous at, it’s turning into a spin machine when something goes wrong. Here’s the synchronized spinning from yesterday’s at Watkins Glen.
I can’t even make the expected “DO YOU EVEN LIFT, BRO?!” joke here. I saw a line of standing water at Watkins Glen’s Turn 1, so I knew something was about to happen there. You don’t need to lift to spin by hydroplaning.
Poor Porsche GT3 Cup cars.
Needless to say, more joined the pile soon as cars went many-wide into the first turn, hitting both standing water as well as the slick dry racing line of the track.
Rubber laid down on the dry line makes it a menace to cross when you’ve got water all down the track, especially in a turn.
Several cars ended up facing the wrong direction.
If you were able to drive in reverse, it’d be just like racing a Civic, right?
Right.
