Long Term Review - Second Report

Ever since the Tiago has entered our long term fleet, it’s been ferrying me to the work place and has also doubled up for my regular requirements. Having spent most of the month within the reach of the city, we’d like to share the bits that caught our attention.

With more than 1,000km at the wheel of the Tiago after the last report, I’ve noticed that driving this hatch in the city is easy due to the compact dimensions. Visibility is commendable and parking is hugely aided by the direct steering and rear parking sensors that beeps and displays information on the infotainment screen.

It’s a pleasant surprise when you turn up the volume to the capable Harman music system with eight speakers. Unlike other infotainment systems available in this segment, this one depicts superior clarity and decibels to make that drive extra entertaining.

Each time I get into the Tiago, I appreciate the quality and design of the interiors. It keeps making me forget the segment of car I’m in and is quite unlike other segment contenders. There’s enough space on the centre console and door pads to empty my pockets and hold bottles and cups of various sizes.

However, there are a couple of issues...

A rattle has cropped up on the outside front right. It occurs every time the road surface is slightly bumpy. Even though it was highlighted when the car went for the first service, the workshop couldn’t silence it.

The seats. We found out that the seats are just too soft. So even though they sport the right contours, fabric and support for short commutes, longer periods of time spent on these seats did translate into some body aches.

Constant gearshifts. This motor feels alive post 2000rpm, so staying around this rpm for any performance oriented manoeuvre is imperative. In the city, this also means constant gear shifts to keep up with traffic. The gear shifts could have had a more positive feel too.

Our Tiago has been busy with photo shoots and testing support errands in connection with the constantly changing fascia’s in our parking lot. Returning consistently over 15kmpl within the city, it keeps that smile pasted on my face. We’re looking forward to the coming month where the Tiago will be put through some long distances. I’ve already begun to appreciate the overall feel-good factor this car proposes.

BS6 Skoda Rapid Review: Pros and Cons
IntroductionWhat we have here is the BS6 Skoda Rapid. Currently, not the most popular body style, you’d agree, but the driving dynamics of this sedan have their charm.
