The New Yaris WRC Car Sounds Like It's At War With Its Own Exhaust Pipe
The New Yaris WRC Car Sounds Like It's At War With Its Own Exhaust Pipe-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:26

There are anti-lag systems that go pop-pop-pop when a driver lifts off the throttle, and then there’s this. 2017 World Rally Championship testing videos keep coming out, and I can’t quit watching the that sounds like a dubstep beat is about to drop every time the driver lifts off.

Here’s Jari-Matti Latvala blasting through some mountain roads in the Toyota Yaris WRC car, practicing for the upcoming Rally Monte Carlo. It pops so much you’d think it was a popcorn machine instead of a car.

Anti-lag works to reduce turbo lag to give drivers all the power whenever they want it, but in the process, fuel and air ignite in the exhaust, producing all of those lovely pops and fireballs.

It’s just as gnarly in the snow, too—if not more because it gets even more sideways.

I can’t wait for the next season to start.
