There Is No Wrong Answer In This Vintage BMW Racecar Faceoff
There Is No Wrong Answer In This Vintage BMW Racecar Faceoff-April 2024

This week's Sunday Drive is a two for one special. We all love some vintage BMWs, and what is better than vintage a BMW? A vintage BMW racecar! But which one to choose? Do you go with the museum quality 1967 2000CS or the turbo-6 swapped 2002? First world problems indeed.

Many of us fantasize about a weekend car for cruising, canyon carving, or attacking our local race track. A car that throws practicality aside for pure driving enjoyment. Therefore, Car Buying has scoured the internet to find a ride for your perfect

First up is a well-documented and exquisitely built

This truly extraordinary, one-of-a-kind, no expense spared, hand-built, 1967 BMW 2000CS vintage race car was often the most talked about car on the track as it campaigned successfully at the Monterey Historics, and other vintage races across the Pacific Northwest from 2007 to 2011. This car was restored, prepared, and maintained by the vintage race specialists at Racecraft in Woodinville, WA, who are widely lauded for their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Over $200,000 was invested in the development of this vintage racer and its SOVREN Vintage Motorsport Logbook Number 1111 fully documents its 18 racing event history. A Buy It Now of $58,000 puts you in the driver's seat at a fraction of the net worth of this remarkable racer - and a long-term increase in value is assured. The car is currently titled and tagged for street use.

If $58,000 is a little too steep for your vintage BMW budget, than this Manofied racing

This car is a bit controversial for two reasons. First, it is "stanced" and that alone will turn some people off. Second, the stock 4cyl motor has been swapped out for a M20 2.7 liter turbo 6 cyl motor that is mated to a dog-leg 5-speed manual with an E30 M3 clutch unit. In addition to the engine and transmission other upgrades include, brakes suspension and drive-line components. The interior is pretty bare as this is a race-prepped car, but you do get a nice set of Recaros.

Manofied did do an excellent job using the OEM turbo exterior bits to make this a pretty aggressive looking 2002.

What's it going to be? The classic shark or the low turbo?
