There's A Box-Fresh Bimota DB1SR On eBay From 1987
There's A Box-Fresh Bimota DB1SR On eBay From 1987-April 2024

There are few bikes more important to Bimota's history as the DB1. It's responsible for saving the company from financial ruin in the 80s, and the upgraded DB1SR is the pick of the litter. Finding one is North America is next to impossible. So finding one that hasn't been out of its crate since getting packed up in Italy is the stuff of collectors' dreams.

That's the story behind , one of 153 DB1SRs made that year, most of which found homes in Japan.

According to the seller:

This DB1SR is quite possibly one of only two still in their original shipping crates. When the current owner received this bike, he raised the crate top off the platform for only the second time since its departure from Rimini, Italy; the first time being at Canada Custom when it first arrived in our country.

It's still mounted to the crate base and still shows some floor dust on the tires from the manufacturer wheeling it across the floor to be crated. The current owner simply couldn't bear to have this beautiful Italian gem hidden in the crate, so he carefully removed the top and packaging so the bike could be displayed still strapped to the base. The crate top and packaging have been carefully stored.

The SR version used the same 750cc 90-degree Ducati V-twin, but benefited from larger 41mm carbs and a 2-into-1 exhaust, outputting 80 HP (up from 65) and enabling a top speed of 142 MPH. The brakes were upgraded with 4-piston calipers and the wheels are composite, and all in the SB1SR came in at a scant 352 pounds.

The auction ends in about 16 hours, with the current bid knocking on $26k with the reserve unmet. Own a piece of history, and then dare yourself to make the best un-boxing video ever.
