This 1969 Toyota FJ Rocks An SBC And A $22,000 Price Tag-April 2024

Whether Jeep, Bronco, Land Rover or Toyota FJ, it generally costs a pretty penny to go old school rough and tumble. Today's Toyota is no exception to that rule, but you still need to decide if this one's condition makes it exceptional.

Have you ever looked at a Dachshund and thought to yourself, you know, that'd be really awesome as a Collie? They're both dogs after all, how hard a transition could it be? That's kind of what I imagine went through the mind of the builder of yesterday's . Based on the build thread linked in the car's ad, it was a hella-lot of work to create that mix of Mitsubishis, but in the end, a narrow 54% of you felt the result wasn't worth what he was asking.

Today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe candidate is a car that was never built, by a brand that no…

Today we're going to go with something a lot more factory, and, it should be said, a lot more desirable to the broader population.

Off-roaders like today's are a hot commodity. Prices for decent examples have been going through the roof, especially for the more rare models like the first-gen Ford Bronco, CJ3s, and these old Toyotas. In fact, we had a on the show not that long ago, and that one was asking an astonishing $85K.

That one was so clean you could serve sushi off of it, sorely disappointing your friends who were expecting a naked girl, or at the very least, food that was cooked. This one's not quite so OCD, but based on the pics, it's in good enough shape to take the whole familia out for pizza. It's also a butt-load cheaper.

This one's not a diesel either, but it does sport a TBI 350 from the house of the Bow Tie. Behind that is a 4-speed Toyota row your own, which has been rebuilt, and a similarly refreshed transfer case. The truck has also been upgraded to disc brakes all the way around, and has been gifted with power steering.

According to the ad, that all means that it doesn't drive like a 44 year old truck. It also doesn't look all that old, either. The Corvette Targa-Blue paint is only two-years old and both it and the soft top look to be in fine shape. The seller says the truck came out of Texas and because of that is rust-free and not to be messed with.

Not only is the body whole, but you get a whole lot of stuff to go along with it. It comes with the soft top you see in the pics, but there's also a full hard cap too, and a bikini top if that's your penchant. Apparently also negotiable in the sale are a full set of extra wheels/tires, another roll bar, fender flares, and a second flapper in case the first one gets lost.

What's wrong with this 112K truck? Well, the gas gauge is apparently about as reliable as the cable repairman, and the Jerry can speaker-equipped stereo seems to be on the fritz. Also, the E-brake doesn't brake so amateur Rockford wannabes should look elsewhere.

This is a whole lotta' FJ and as you might expect, its seller is asking a whole lotta' Benjamins to take over its ownership. The asking price is $22,000, which isn't chump change, but might be a fair price for so nice a ride. That of course, is where you come in.

What do you think about this Chevy-powered FJ40 and its $22K price? Is it priced right? Or, is this that an asking price that means the seller is just toying with us?

You decide!
