Trump Supporters Pissed After Car Dealer Takes A Whack At Donald Piñata
Trump Supporters Pissed After Car Dealer Takes A Whack At Donald Piñata-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:40

While local dealership ads tend to be pretty cheesy, they usually stay away from political controversy. This weekend, Donald Trump supporters took to social media demanding that an Los Angeles-area Nissan dealership face consequences after making commercial in which a Trump piñata is whacked to promote a sale.

According to conservative website , a Nissan of Van Nuys ad promotes a $500 discount and refers to Trump as “Trumpudo,” a play on the Spanish insult “trompudo,” which means “thick-lipped.”

The commercial was supposed to run on a local Telemundo affiliate station, but an official air date was never confirmed. The ad is a response to Trump’s recent comments about Mexican immigrants being, you know, a bunch of .

Once The Blaze picked up the story, the Twitmosphere lit up with calls for boycotts, a backlash from Nissan and even a Secret Service investigation(!). posted a sampling of some of the Tweets.

It is unlikely that the Secret Service will get involved, as hitting a piñata doesn’t exactly constitute a death threat.

Furthermore, if Nissan didn’t care to act on an , the automaker probably isn’t too concerned about a silly car commercial.

Isn’t politics fun, kids?

(Update: Nissan USA has issued the following statement in response to the ad)

Nissan has more than 1,200 dealers in the U.S., and they operate as independent businesses. We expect our dealers to establish advertising that is responsible and respectful and represents the best interest of the Nissan brand. As a company, Nissan respects the right of both individuals and private businesses to practice free speech in a responsible and respectful manner. In this case, we find these advertisements to be neither responsible or respectful, and we do not condone what they represent.
