"I said last year that if the Legislature changed the law, I would sign new legislation put on my desk and that is exactly what I'm doing today," Gov. Christie regarding the Democrat-sponsored bill. "We're pleased that manufacturers like Tesla will now have the opportunity to establish direct sales operations for consumers in a manner lawfully in New Jersey."
The law isn't specifically for Tesla, but it only covers zero-emission vehicle manufacturers that have been approved by the state. The law also requires Tesla to open a service center, which it's done in Paramus.
Tesla kept both of its showrooms open during the drawn-out legal battle and plans to open two more soon. And it's already taking a victory lap.
