2008 Ford Taurus X, Day Two
2008 Ford Taurus X, Day Two-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:21

Yesterday, — which is in Jalopnik's garage for a week — telling you it made us look like dads. Today the big Taurus gets a chance to shine, hauling unwanted doors from Ray's pied-à-terre to his glamorous storage facility in Jersey.

At first glance, the Taurus X's interior looks like a decent load hauler. Both of the back rows split in the middle and fold flat, the front passenger seat can join them, giving an overall load bay length of 9 feet.

The seats aren't removable, though, and even while flat, severely impinge on luggage capacity. For instance, the third row eats up 10 inches of the trunk's depth. The trunk opening also is oddly shaped; in fact, the whole rear feels a bit pinched in the middle, further compromising the car's ability to haul large, oddly shaped loads.

Ray's set of 7-foot-tall closet doors filled the car's capacity, they would have virtually disappeared into an Expedition's cavernous interior. You couldn't haul a couch in here.

We also regret to report that Ray is woefully inept with a screwdriver, we're afraid we can't recommend him as the friend to call when you need help moving.

If You Need Heavy Duty Hauling Power On The Cheap Get An Ambulance
On the face of things, people might think I have some moral opposition to the existence of trucks and diesel and big heavy haulers. To an extent, I suppose I do, but when they are used to the effect they are built for, they’re pretty great. It’s appalling in...

At $5,200, Is Buying This 2001 Mercedes SLK230 An Open and Shut Case?
The vast majority of car buyers may prefer transmissions that shift themselves, but today’s SLK230 is for that small minority that likes to take matters — and shifting — into their own hands. Let’s see what so limited a market might do to its worth. It’s safe to say...

The new Genesis G80 Sport has been overhauled with all-wheel drive and an optional new rear-wheel steering setup to grip through corners like a that’s low enough to the ground to not flip over. If you don’t like the Halo Warthog reference, which is the name for the game’s...

The 2023 Kia Sportage's Best Interior Trim Is A 'Beauty Is Pain' Proposition
I fully support unconventional material and design choices in cars, especially in new production cars that people can actually buy. At first, I was in love with the ’s optional blue interior trim. Then the neat-freak in me cried out in horror and I realized I may not be...
