An Amtrak Train Has Been Stuck in Snow in Oregon Since Sunday
An Amtrak Train Has Been Stuck in Snow in Oregon Since Sunday-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:04

The evening after hitting a tree that fell on the snowy tracks, creating a very special and boring sort of hell for the 183 passengers onboard. While food and supplies like diapers are on the verge of running out, for the most part people have been dealing with the situation remarkably well, not giving into Train Madness or resorting to cannibalism, not even a little bit.

The train is stranded 321 miles from Seattle near a small town called Oakridge, Oregon. The heavy snows in the area have prevented rail crews from getting to the site to remove the fallen tree, trapping the train for over 50+ hours so far.

Passengers have been reporting that, considering the situation, things have been going well, with staff being supportive, and strangers helping one another out. According to one passenger,

“It’s just been like a giant kumbaya party. Strangers are playing cards. A teenager played his ukulele to kids to get them to sleep. Ladies who have never met before were dancing in aisles.”

That same passenger has been posting some video updates of the situation:

Amtrak has not been charging passengers for food, according to a Tweet:

Having recently traveled on an Amtrak train, this sounds like a cold, boring hell. A new engine has been delivered to the train to pull it back to Seattle, and Amtrak has tweeted that the train has started the journey back:

Of course, more delays are expected, as tracks still require clearing. Those poor bastards aren’t out of this just yet.

Stay strong, you cold, bored people!

Holy Crap, NASA Is Considering Improvements To Orion That We Proposed
I'm not going to lie; I'm pretty excited about this. Let me make this clear right up front, though: I don't actually think NASA is using my idea, as such. But, NASA has announced it's spacecraft that's Hear me out. On October 3, 2014 — about a week ago —...

Dear US Navy: The Futuristic X3K Is What Littoral Combat Ships Should Be
The last decade has seen some pretty awesome looking warships hit waters around the globe. On the "blue water" side of things the Star Wars looking Zumwalt Class and the minimalist art-like Lafayette Class were clearly designed with stealth in mind. Yet the "brown water" is where , and this...

Why Is This Mi-24 Hind Wearing U.S. Coast Guard Colors?
Why Is This Mi-24 Hind Wearing U.S. Coast Guard Colors?
Apparently, these are screencaps from some '80s Russian action movie, one in which the US Coast Guard was a way more aggressive fighting force than their actual mission requires. Still, the Hind looks quite dapper in its Coastie clothes don't you think? These images also remind us that the Mi-24...

I Swallowed My Tongue Just Watching This 170 MPH Stoppie
You know your riding buddy that likes to do cute little stoppies at every damn traffic light? Here's Dani Pedrosa showing him how it's really done. Pedrosa was running in the first free practice at Motegi, where teams tend to fit larger carbon ceramic discs because of the track's massive...

Camera Drone Slams Into Turkey's Blue Mosque, Recovers, Moves On
Camera wielding quad copters are spots around the globe. The National Park Service has even outlawed unmanned aircraft within their domain as they were becoming a major annoyance to non-drone toting visitors. Damage caused by remote controlled aircraft to fragile historical structures and sites is also a major concern, as...

Welcome Your Future Death In This Film On The Navy's Stealth Drone
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, because in 50 years they will be bombing your grandchildren from above visual height. We — the X-47B first performing successfully integrated unmanned and manned carrier operations back in August. The US Navy just announced that it has successfully integrated unmanned and manned carrier…...
