Eight Years After Near-Fatal Rally Crash, Robert Kubica Offered Williams F1 Drive: Report
Eight Years After Near-Fatal Rally Crash, Robert Kubica Offered Williams F1 Drive: Report-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:12

For the past few years, enigmatic Polish driver Robert Kubica has been inching back into Formula Oneafter surviving getting impaled in a rally car crash. Now he has a standing offer for a race seat with Williams and a possible reserve role at Ferrari, as reports.

Kubica is among those who watched him compete. He went from surviving one of the most dramatic crashes in F1 history to winning at the same track. You couldn’t help but root for the guy.

Then his career was cut short by that crash, and he’s been slowly recouping and working his way back into the F1 circus with Renault and then Williams, where he is currently in a test driver role.

But Apparently he’s a few days away from making a decision on a full F1 drive, nearly a decade after he last raced, per Autosport:

Robert Kubica is understood to have a race drive on offer from Williams for the 2019 Formula 1 season, as well as a chance to take a reserve role with Ferrari.

[...]

However, he’s also in demand at Ferrari, which will lose the services of both Daniil Kvyat and Antonio Giovinazzi next year, and is keen to have a driver familiar with current F1 cars and tyres to spearhead its simulator programme.

[...]

“I think we are quite close to the decision,” Kubica told Autosport. “From my point of view I’m getting there, and I have a deadline very soon, in my head.

“It will be within a few days, what I decide, what I want to do, and what I think is the best direction for me.

Williams only has one driver locked in at the moment and there’s room for Robert. I, for one, am still rooting for the guy.
