Perhaps surprisingly, given its niche positioning, the Opel Adam was our most popular review. This cute little boutique hatchback has got so much going for it and the 1.0-litre turbo engine is one of the finest. It’s competitively priced and sales are going reasonably well.

The cute Volkswagen up! took its time to come to South Africa, but we’re glad its here as it brings VW build quality and refinement to the budget segment. It may only currently be offered in a three-door bodyshape, but the interior packaging is excellent! It’s also a finalist in our Cars.co.za Consumer Awards.

Opel was on the warpath in 2015 as it launched many products, effectively killing all the rumours that the brand was dead. The new Opel Corsa is an exceptional product and like the Adam, boasts the rather great 1.0-litre turbo engine and modern tech such as self parking. It’s easy to see why it’s a finalist in the Cars.co.za ConsumerAwards.

You can also buy it in this nice blue hue which you see here. The little 0.9 engine works hard, but the overall package is very stylish.
