For $2,995, Sebring The Noize
For $2,995, Sebring The Noize-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:06

Combo meals can make fast food ordering even easier and more economical. Likewise, today's combo Sebring/Blazer means never having to decide between fun in the sun and 4x4 git 'er done. But will its price make this combo worth ordering?

I don't know what it is about cars named after southern race tracks that makes people want to plop them onto anvil-simple 4x4 chassis, but the effort sure seems endemic, especially in the Pacific Northwest. Not too long ago we had , and today we have . Both remarkably, are from the Portland area.

Today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe candidate is a Daytona on a Jeep. Or maybe it's a Jeep in a Dodge…

This one's ad is light on the details such as the model year of the Sebring or its mated Chevy Blazer, but it does note that the drivetrain is the ubiquitous SBC and automatic, here that gearbox offering OD. The seller does claim the car to be a RAT ROD rather than a trailer queen, and I am officially demanding a stop to the use of the former term on a car where the owner is just too lazy to give it wash or clean out all the old drive-thru bags. I mean come on, people.

The description of it as a head turner is pretty apt however, and in the good way, and not in the fashion of the Exorcist. After all, it's jacked up higher than a pair of mom jeans, and rides on some pretty big meats. Aiding entry to the now sky high Sebring are a pair of loop steps bolted to the frame, and as a courtesy to drivers ahead, a pair of driving lights have likewise been attached at non-blinding level.

Other than that it seems to offer all of the capabilities of the Blazer chassis - locking hubs, two-speed transfer case, etc - with none of the unnecessary machismo afforded by its truck body. Instead we get the Chrysler Sebring convertible, here incongruously dressed in white racing stripes over deep blue paint. the expanded mesh grille is a nice touch.

Aside from the convertible top which the ad says is tired and in need of a $199.00 replacement, everything is supposed to work. That includes pretty much power everything, and as a bonus, there is a shearling seat cover on the driver's throne. Who doesn't love those?

The compulsion to meld truck and car must be a strong one as these matings are alarmingly common. This might indicate that it's caused by a virulent virus, or maybe too many beers. Whatever the reason for their being, it's probably something that you'd want to buy already converted, rather than attempting to do yourself, and in that case, this Sebring/Blazer matchup seems like a worthy choice. But what about its price?

The seller is asking $2,995 for this beast, and proclaims that he will remove the ad when it is sold. Obviously for the moment that's a veiled threat as it's still there. While we still have time, what's your take on $2,995 for this Blazebring? Do you think that fair considering the info provided in the ad? Or, is this a mating of car and truck that's both unholy and overpriced?

You decide!

, or go if the ad disappears.

H/T to Civardi for the hookup!
