Following rumours that Ford is planning on bringing a new Focus RS by 2016, the company has confirmed the model will be part of its global programme to produce 12 new high performance models under a new Ford Performance banner between now and 2020.
The company is yet to detail any specifics but confirmed the RS ‘will be available to customers in major markets around the world for the first time.’ Also that ‘it is part of Fords plan to deliver even more performance vehicles, parts and accessories for customers around the world more quickly.’
Ford remains committed to innovation through performance, said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. Our new global Ford Performance team ties together racing, performance vehicles and parts. It will allow us to more quickly introduce products and accessories that meet the needs of customers around the world on-road and on the track.
In addition, Ford mentioned that it will be amalgamatingits various performance divisions – such as Ford Racing, Ford SVT and Team RS into the new Ford Performance organisation.
The Ford Focus RS will join Fords existing performance lineup, including Fiesta ST, Focus ST, Shelby GT350 Mustang and F-150 Raptor.
