Google Just Made Searching For New Car Info A Lot Easier
Google Just Made Searching For New Car Info A Lot Easier-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:07

I'd love to tell you that as a Jalopnik writer, I know the exact price, full engine specs, horsepower, and MPG rating for every single car ever made off the top of my head. Sadly, even I'm not that good. But Google just made my job easier, and yours too if you're buying a new car soon.

As the website uncovered today, the Goog recently unveiled a new feature on their search page that pops up pricing data and specs on new cars. It's easy to use: just search for the car you want and the specs come up in a window to the right, along with a list of other cars people search for.

Neat, right? But as Android Police notes, it's not perfect just yet. It seems to be only for newer cars at the moment, so if you want immediate data on your 1963 Simca 1000, you may need to search around a bit more. It also doesn't have a super-wide selection just yet:

The selection of new models seems to be a little spotty too, and it doesn't necessarily follow for the popularity of the vehicle in question. For example, I can see the new info for "2013 Jaguar XJ" and "2013 Nissan Murano," but not "2013 Hyundai Santa Fe" or "2013 Lamborghini Murcielago."

Regardless, this is a cool feature, and I hope they add more new and old cars soon. What's the craziest one you can find on Google? What obvious choices are they missing?

Hat tip to Frost!

For $6,400, Could You Rally Around This 1974 Chevy Vega?
For $6,400, Could You Rally Around This 1974 Chevy Vega?
General Motors used to stand Vegas on their noses to transport them by train from the factory to the dealers. Today’s Rally model sits properly, but will you still find its price to be on the nose? If you see my van a-rockin, don’t come a-knockin, or so the story...

The 2017 Cadillac CT6 Platinum Is Too Good To Care About Your German Luxo-Barge
It’s no secret that Cadillac has wanted to step away from the old-person car reputation that had built up over decades of bad decisions and somehow land in the cool, hip and high-contrast world of urban-chic luxury buyers. But, you could open any Cadillac review over the past 15 years...

For $15,000, Could This Chevy-Powered 2000 Jeep Cherokee Be The LS Thing You Need?
Today’s Jeep rocks a Chevy V8 and is named for a Native American Nation, you just don’t get much more American than that. Let’s see if you’d be willing to spend a chunk of American money to buy it. Yesterday’s reminded me of Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles singing “I’m...

For $13,500, Could This 2008 Audi S4 Cabriolet Make You The Torque Of The Town?
The fact that today’s Audi is a manual is important, not just because we like manuals, but because its driving dynamics are appreciably different from the auto version. Let’s see if its price has you shouting vive le différence! They say time heals all wounds, but perhaps in the case...

For $28,500, Could There Still Be Life Left In This 1990 BMW M3?
Today’s E30 M3 needs some lovin.’ That’s because it’s had four owners and 190,000 miles in its past, and it shows it. Let’s see if this worn-in classic has a price that you could love as well. So it turns out that junkyards are NOT the ticket to getting a...

For $67,500, Would You Buy This 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS... From A Junkyard?
Normally you’d expect to buy your Ferrari from some chichi showroom, but today’s 308 is offered by a Porsche parts palace. Maybe that means they’ll part with it for a song! Would you date Lindsay Lohan? How about Charlie “Winning” Sheen? Either of those folks is a walking—sometimes stumbling—train wreck,...
