You’ve probably all seen where cars filled with dummies crash into rigid or deformable barriers. But have you seen many crash tests of fully-loaded cargo vehicles? Check out this Mercedes Vito filled with 1,700 pounds of concrete blocks crashing into a wall at 31 mph. It’s disturbing.

The crash test of this van related to actor comes to us from a Swiss company called , which specializes in safety research and serves “.”

Here’s the crash test of the Vito loaded with 1,700 pounds of “concrete rings for plants” in the cargo area:

Watch as, once the van’s front end hits the wall, the inertia of the pallet full of concrete sends it careening into the back of the front seats. The seats, the dash, and especially the dummies wind up pretty much obliterated. This scene is almost hard to watch, even though I know it’s just an artificial human:

Dynamic Test Center has a number of other fascinating videos of loaded-up vehicles crashing. I myself have always been curious about such crash scenarios, but have never actually seen footage of any testing. Like, here’s what happens when a flatbed truck loaded with a car crashes into a barrier:

And here’s a wagon running into a trailer being towed by another wagon:

The main takeaway is that adding a ton of weight that isn’t rigidly mounted to your car is not a good thing for crash protection. I myself have a ridiculously heavy front axle in my . I should probably take that out if I want to avoid a knuckle sandwich (get it, because the axle has knuckles attached to it, and a knuckle sandwich is...nevermind).

The Fanatec CSL DD Meets The Hype — But There's A Catch
When that it was bringing a direct drive wheel base to market for just $350, sim racers sort of lost it. Direct drive is the cream of the crop in terms of force feedback technology compared to cheaper but less precise gear- and belt-driven systems. But Fanatec’s existing direct drive...

Toyota C-HR Tops List Of Owner Regret
Tough news for Toyota C-HR owners out there. A showed people who have the little hatchback/crossover-thing have more buyer’s remorse than any other owners. As it turns out, C-HR owners are the least likely to buy the car again. Consumer Reports analyzed data from thousands of members on over...

Bruce Campbell Reminds Us That He Used To Shill Cars
The dude that fought hordes of the undead with a chainsaw hand had to start somewhere, right? Well, in the case of actor (who research suggests may not actually have a chainsaw hand in real life?), that start seems to be doing films for automakers like Chrysler, and interacting...

You Really Should Read Those Sun Visor Warning Labels
I had a press vehicle recently, and when I pulled down the visor to block the intense rays of that large, glowing orb in the sky — I want to say it’s Jupiter? Anyway, when I pulled down the visor, I was confronted with this big warning label, and...

Unbelievably, American Automakers Used To Brag About Their Cars Being Heavier Than The Competition. Look At These Absurd Ads
Everyone knows that , and yet oddly, in the 1970s, American automakers actually bragged about their vehicles being heavier than the competition. The whole thing is unbelievably idiotic and serves as just another reminder of the sad state of American cars during that era. At Chrysler, where I used...

Apparently Noble Still Exists And Has A New Supercar To Prove It
There’s a brand new car from Noble. Yes, I’m as shocked as you are. But it’s true:, and it has created a brand new supercar to prove just that. Noble, which is based in Leicester in the UK, hasn’t premiered a new car in 12 years. In fact, it...
