Study shows most eco-friendly cities aren’t necessarily offering the best deals on a used Prius

Woburn, Mass. (December XX, 2013) –Hybrids used to be an automobile type that we dreamed up for the future. Now they are a reality and have been for quite some time. The Toyota Prius arrived in the U.S in 2000 and today is the best-selling hybrid in the U.S. At an average price of $16,561 for a used Prius, it’s also an affordable used hybrid for many consumers. iSeeCars.com decided to take a look at the market for a used Prius to see which were the most and least expensive of the largest U.S. cities to buy one.

Across the largest U.S. cities, the pricing difference between the least and most expensive city to buy a used Prius is 15.5%. The city where you can score the cheapest used Prius is Miami, where the average price is almost 9% less expensive than the average price nationally. Orlando, Salt Lake City, New York City and Providence follow Miami respectively in terms of least-expensive cities to purchase a used Prius.

Used Prius prices in San Francisco and Los Angeles are 4% more expensive than the average national price. That could be due to the high demand for fuel efficient cars, as San Francisco and Los Angeles are ranked 1 and 2 respectively for having the highest proportion of the best MPG cars sold, pointed out in a previous iSeeCars.com study.

“It’s surprising to see such a difference in used Prius pricing across the U.S.,” Ly said. “However, you’re not out of luck if you’re in one of the more-expensive cities. Just search nearby cities to see if you can get a better deal by going outside your local area.”

Here is the full list showing Used Toyota Prius Pricing Comparison Across the Largest US Cities

Methodology:

iSeeCars analyzed recent pricing data for the Toyota Prius over the last several months and studied prices across the largest 50 U.S. city metropolitan areas (DMA) by population. The ranking was determined by comparing the average market price for a used Prius in each city against the average market price nationally. “Market price” of a used car is determined using a proprietary algorithm that analyzes similar cars for sale nationwide – those with the same year, make, model, trim, options, mileage, and other factors.

About iSeeCars.com:
