Elon Musk is tweeting again, despite meant to keep him in check. This time he’s talking fiscal policy, focused around a proposal that would for people like him. The rule change could stick Elon with a $10 billion annual tax bill, and he’s none too happy about it.

Let’s start with a quick primer on the proposed change. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon has suggested an update to the current tax code, one that would affect long-term capital gains taxes for millionaires and billionaires. Currently, capital gains (an increase in value of something you own — real estate, stocks, pogs) are taxed as income if you own that property for less than a year. After a year or more, they’re taxes as “long-term capital gains” — a category that’s capped at a 20% tax.

In space, no one can hear you tweet

No matter the tax rate, capital gains taxes are only incurred when you sell the relevant holding. If your stocks triple in value, but you and your , you won’t incur any tax. That’s what Sen. Wyden’s proposal wants to change: Adding a tax on unrealized capital gains, to be treated as regular income, for top earners.

Elon Musk, , would be one of those top earners. A notorious and dedicated , Musk spoke out on Twitter against the proposed change:

Musk’s use of the classic “” line is truly some -level irony, given that Tesla and SpaceX are directly funded by those same government coffers. As of 2015, Tesla, SolarCity (then still an independent company), and SpaceX had raked in in subsidies and tax credits.

Of course, the money didn’t stop there. 2015 was before Tesla’s Austin factory, and its . It was before the construction in Berlin, which comes with a cost to the German government that . Musk follows government money, vacuuming it up wherever he can — ten digits’ worth so far, with more on the horizon.

With such a heavy reliance on subsidies for SpaceX and Tesla, Musk really isn’t in a position to complain about taxes — after all, he’d be nowhere without them. The system that’s funded his factories, rockets, and tunnels needs to recoup those payouts somehow. Maybe he expects cryptocurrency to — or maybe, paying taxes is some good advice Elon just can’t take.

2007 Audi A6 3.2L, Part Two
It works and it doesn't. While this luxury sedan has nice, though moderately conservative, styling on the front and rear end, the A6's profile is something Ingolstadt must fix. It is this car's Achilles heel. The spot you conduct your asphalt assault from is a really nice place to be....

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Part One
I drove the backwards. Not in the reverse gear sense, but leaving Palm Springs it's only a very short climb up a straight, steep highway before you get to the kind of roads we car guys can usually only dream about. As state route 74 climbs up to Pinyon Crest,...

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Part Two
The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI isn't what you'd call traditionally handsome. But with the wildly flared arches, huge hood scoop and restrained rear wing, it caries an air of purposeful muscularity. We prefer it to the old version, but would order ours in either black or white. Red does...

2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4, Part Three
You'd never be caught dead in a foreign car but you're still drawn to the versatility of a hatchback. Your friends all drive Preludes with ridiculous body kits and faux carbon fiber hoods and you want to give them something to think about at stop lights. You're Mopar through and...

2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4, Part Two
Though not quite designed for the city, the SRT4's looks are architectural. Instead of taking the truck-like exterior of the Caliber RT and making it appear sporting, Dodge's design team has embraced what they were stuck with and given the vehicle a unique, rough, look that isn't completely unlikable. The...

Buy this car if you want a large luxury sedan with impeccable fit and finish, cool toys and one of the smoothest powertrains you'll ever have the pleasure of piloting. When you order one, be very careful picking your color and wheels. There's a tan A6 with the base model...
