The Takata Airbag saga is still unresolved and yet another brand has been forced to issue a recall to rectify its affected cars. After investigative recalls by Mazda Japan and Mazda North America, Mazda global has issued a recall and South African customers are affected.Essentially, the Takata-manufactured airbagsare faulty and while there has been no "abnormal deployment or dangerous flaws" found in Mazda products, the Japanese are taking no chances.
South African Mazda customers take heed:
An estimated 19 000 cars are affectedThe vehicles are the Mazda2, Mazda6 and Mazda RX-8 produced from 2003The affected vehicles have VIN numbersstarting with MM6DE, JM6GG and JMZSE.
According to Mazda Southern Africa, "We will be conducting a repair procedure to replace the driver-side air bag and / or passenger-side air bag inflator with an improved unit on the possibly affected vehicles."
