MG Gloster's off-road abilities

The curtains are slowly rising before the complete reveal of the all-new MG Gloster. Along with massive road presence, luxurious seating space for seven adults, and L1 autonomous driving technology the Gloster is no slouch off the road too. Thanks to a torquey diesel engine, independent suspension, off-road assist systems and an intelligent four-wheel drivetrain - the Gloster conquers all types of terrain with ease. Let’s take a quick look at its off-road abilities.

Basics done right

Even before the intelligent four-wheel drive system works its magic, the Gloster’s torquey diesel engine, automatic gearbox and independent suspension make it quite capable over varied road/off-road surfaces.

Twin-Turbocharged diesel engine

The MG Gloster is powered by a first-in-segment twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine develop 215bhp of maximum power and, more importantly, a class leading 480Nm of peak torque. The engine has more than enough grunt to help this large SUV traverse over tough terrain without breaking a sweat, while the eight speed automatic gearbox making sure the engine stays in its sweet spot.

Pro off-road suspension setup

The double wishbone independent front suspension and five-link integral bridge rear suspension gives the Gloster the best balance for all situations. Off the road, the Gloster’s professional suspension setup allows for maximum control over varied surfaces, maximum grip over undulating surfaces thanks to the tall suspension and maximum grip from each tyre for increased confidence.

Intelligent four-wheel drive

The on-demand four-wheel drive system can intelligently send power to each axle for maximum grip, making it fun and confident to drive on road. While leaving the system on auto-mode will help you tackle most trails, the system has dedicated modes to tackle the rough stuff. Choose from ‘Mud Mode, Sand Mode, Rock Mode, Snow Mode’ to handle the respective situations with ease.

The system even has an ‘Eco Mode’ to maximise efficiency on road and a ‘Sport Mode’ to let you enjoy the oodles of performance and grip the Gloster has to offer.

EDL – Electromechanical Differential Lock

MG Gloster Wheel

Part of the Gloster’s intelligent four-wheel drive system, the rear axle has an electromechanical differential lock. This is deployed automatically in tricky situations, such as when tackling low-grip axle-twisters, and locks rear axle so that maximum power is sent to the rear wheel with most grip. The MG Gloster can handle impossible looking terrain thanks to systems like these.

Other features

MG Gloster Car Roof

The MG Gloster has been designed with off-road assistance systems like rollover mitigation system and a hill-hold / hill-descent control system. The approach, departure and break-over angles make this large SUV the best in class when tackling off-road situations. The cherry on top is its over half-a-metre water wading capability!

Uncompromised spacious SUV

MG Gloster Rear Seats

For all its abilities off-road, the Gloster doesn’t compromise on occupant comfort. The six/seven seater premium SUV is the longest (five metres) and tallest (1.9 metres) SUV in the segment which not only make it spacious but also give it massive road presence. The large 19-inch alloy wheels add to that macho design.

The MG Gloster will be India’s first L1-autonomous premium SUV when launched, check out its unique safety and assistance features here.
