New Toyota Yaris Hybrid in South Africa-October 2024
2023-12-14 EST 02:30:53

Details of the newToyotaYaris Hybrid have been released and is now available in South Africa. The new Yaris Hybrid incorporates Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) technology and promises low fuel consumption and low environmental impact without compromising performance, passenger accommodation or load space. The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid is available in two trim grades including the mid-spec XS and the high-grade XR.

New Toyota Yaris Hybrid boasts low fuel consumption

Engine Capability

The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid is fitted with a substantially re-engineered 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with a lighter, more compact electric motor, transaxle, inverter and battery pack. The total system output delivers 74kW of power and the Yaris Hybrid is capable of achieving an impressive fuel consumption figure of only 3.8-litres/100km with a range of up to 1 000km on a single tank of fuel. CO2 emissions for the Yaris Hybrid is rated at 88g/km.

Toyota’s HSD technology operates in several different modes. At low to mid-range speeds the Yaris Hybrid operates solely on battery power, nullifying all emissions as a result. Under normal driving conditions, power allocation is adjusted between the engine and the electric motor to ensure maximum performance and the best fuel consumption possible. The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid will achieve 0-100km/h in 11.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 165km/h.

Interior and Exterior Styling

The distinctly aerodynamic exterior design sets the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid apart from previous Yaris models. The Yaris Hybrid features a larger trapezoidal lower grille for optimised engine cooling. The slim upper grille is accented by shapely headlights emphasising its bold design approach. The Yaris Hybrid is 20mm longer in length due to the revised front-end and rides on 15-inch alloy wheels. Six body colours are available including the model-specific ‘Pearl White’.

The interior features a driver orientated cockpit for maximum comfort. The centre console incorporates the ‘Toyota Touch’ system that is illuminated in blue and offers a Hybrid Energy Monitor that displays fuel range and fuel consumption along with other critical figures relating to the HSD system.

Safety Features

The new Toyota Yaris Hybrid has a five-star EuroNCAP rating and comes with ABS with EBD and BAS as well as Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). Four airbags are included in the XS model (driver, passenger, and side airbags), while the XR model benefits from seven airbags with additional curtain and driver knee airbags.
